He comes to Half Moon Bay from The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, where he served as Director of Food & Beverage. Maurice is well acquainted with The Ritz-Carlton brand, starting his tenure with the company in 2007 at Hotel Arts Barcelona, serving as an assistant sommelier, bartender, and Chef de Rang at its fine dining concept. In 2009, he moved onward to several of The Ritz-Carlton's esteemed locations both in the U.S. and abroad, including The Ritz-Carlton, Powerscourt in Ireland, The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, and The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay from 2019 to 2022.
"We are delighted to welcome Maurice back to our team at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay," says General Manager Mathieu Riviere. "He was instrumental in helping us earn our first Forbes Five Star in 2019 and we are confident that he will continue to maintain our elite status as he rejoins our team."
In his new role, Tax will work alongside the resort's new Executive Chef Javier Arrebola-who joined the team September 24-Navio Chef de Cuisine Francisco Simón, and Executive Pastry Chef Joanna Kaskiw as part of the resort's culinary leadership team. Tax joins the resort on the heels of hosting California's Michelin Awards on August 5 and just before the unveiling of a multi-million dollar renovation of the property.
"I am thrilled to return to my post here at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay during such an exciting time for the resort." says Tax. "The property's focus on excellence is unmatched and I know we will continue to take the resort to greater heights."
Tax holds a degree in Business Administration from the International University Bad Honnef and a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management from Victoria University. In his free time, he enjoys running, hiking with his dog Rip, snowboarding, and planning his upcoming wedding.
