Joie de Vivre Appoints Christopher Shiel as Director of Sales and Marketing for Hotel 50 Bowery

USA, New York City, New York. October 29, 2018

Joie de Vivre Hotels has announced the appointment of Christopher Shiel as Director of Sales and Marketing of Hotel 50 Bowery . In his role, Shiel oversees all sales and marketing efforts for the hotel group's first Manhattan address, including planning and implementing innovative strategies and development initiatives to drive revenues from group, business and leisure clientele, while getting word out about the Joie de Vivre brand in the competitive Manhattan market.

Shiel joined Hotel 50 Bowery from Refinery Hotel in the Garment District of Manhattan, where he was Director of Sales and Marketing for the past year. Previously, he held the same position for Smyth, a Thompson hotel, including overseeing a renovation and repositioning the property within the downtown Manhattan luxury market.

Earlier in his career, Shiel spent four years in sales at Denihan Hospitality Group for the properties Affinia Fifty, Affinia Gardens, and The Benjamin, all located in New York. During a turn as Director of Sales, he oversaw the complete repositioning of Affinia Fifty following a $20 million renovation.

Shiel began his extensive career with InterContinental Hotel Group's New York sales division, joining the company as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator and working his way up to Corporate Sales Manager, which saw him negotiating sales contracts with Fortune 500 companies.

In his earlier years, Shiel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He currently resides in the Upper East Side of Manhattan with his wife and two children and enjoys spending his free time traveling, with a well-stamped passport revealing explorations throughout South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Hotel 50 Bowery celebrates Chinatown's past, present, and future through design, experiences, and amenities curated to acquaint New York with the fun-loving, Joie de Vivre lifestyle. Its ties to the Chinatown community are showcased with The Gallery, a permanent exhibit from the Museum of Chinese in America. The 229-room hotel offers 6,900 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, and three dining concepts by Chef Dale Talde and his partners at Three Kings Restaurant Group.
