Expedia Expands Insurance Coverage

. October 14, 2008

AUGUST 10, 2006. Expedia.com is expanding its suite of travel insurance offerings by launching Expedia Package Protection.

The plan includes coverage for airline, hotel, car and activities service fees in the event the traveler changes or cancels a trip for any reason prior to the start of the trip or interrupts a trip for a covered reason.*

"We are always looking for ways to provide travelers with superior services to ensure they are confident in knowing they have flexibility when planning and booking travel on Expedia," says Troy Brown, vice president of packages, Expedia.com. "By guarding against cancellation penalties and providing travelers with an important safeguard before, during and after their trip, Expedia(R) Package Protection takes the worry out of vacation planning and purchase."

In addition to trip cancellation/interruption coverage, the plan provides reimbursement for expenses incurred if travel is delayed due to bad weather, strike or mechanical failure. In the event of a medical emergency while traveling, the plan provides reimbursement for medical expenses and coverage for emergency medical transportation. Benefits are also provided for baggage and personal effects that are lost, stolen, delayed or damaged during travel. Further information, including coverage terms, conditions, and exclusions, is available through Expedia's website during the booking process.

Expedia(R) Package Protection plan pricing varies depending on the trip destination. Some examples of plan costs are; $49 per person for travel within Continental U.S., $69 per person for travel from the U.S. to Europe and $89 per person for travel from the U.S. to South America/Africa/Middle East or for multiple destinations. Expedia(R) Package Protection is only available for purchase at the time of booking.
