Safemark Creates XL Desk Drawer Safe

Accommodates Today's Larger Laptops

. October 14, 2008

AUGUST 27, 2008. With laptop computers evolving at a furious pace, so too must the products that business travelers rely on to protect those valuable machines. In fact, the recent introduction of 17-inch monitors that make laptop computers more user-friendly has actually created a problem for the many hotels and resorts that provide in-room safes: The new laptops are simply too big to fit inside presently-installed units.

Orlando-based Safemark Systems, a leading provider of in-room safes to the hospitality market, has responded quickly to the new situation. Today, the company proudly introduces the new XL Desk Drawer Safe, a larger version of its popular safe that can be secured within a desk drawer for ease of access as well as ultimate security for travelers' irreplaceable items.

The XL model, designed to protect laptops as large as 17 inches in addition to wallets, personal valuables, music players, and other electronic devices, is welcomed by hotel and suite designers. The reason: A desk-drawer safe is so well concealed yet offers convenient access where hotel guests typically do their work - around the desk area.

The metal, top-open drawer safe is engineered with hydraulic arms and two 3/4-inch/19mm steel locking bolts for additional security. It can be opened only with the guest's programmed digital combination.

"The beauty of this innovative safe is that it's totally secure and well hidden in the desk drawer, yet right at the fingertips of guests who are busy with their work or on a phone call. As a result, there's no need to move from the desk area to access important belongings," said John Foley, Vice President of Sales for Safemark Systems. "And hotel room and suite designers love it because it's unobtrusive."

Safemark clients agree. "The design of this safe gives us exceptional flexibility to place it in the prime location for the guest's benefit, and also affords the possibility of seamless incorporation into our millwork design, without needing any aesthetic compromises," said Ariane Steinbeck, Principal and Managing Director of Gettys Hong Kong.

Like the 15-inch desk drawer safe introduced by Safemark in May 2007, the XL model is secured to the desk by steel-wire cables to prevent removal from the room. In addition, Safemark provides guests a 5-year, $10,000 warranty for theft against forcible entry.

In a recent survey conducted by research firm D.K. Shifflet & Associates, 72 percent of respondents said that hotels offering in-room safes demonstrated more consideration toward their guests. The study also revealed that 58 percent of business travelers and 49 percent of leisure travelers secure their belongings using in-room safes.

Safemark, headquartered in Orlando, FL, offers a wide variety of superior guest room afes in various configurations that are designed to meet the needs of travelers and usinesses. Depending on the safe's size and shape, the various models are designed to onveniently store such items as laptops, palm pilots, video and digital cameras, purses, jewelry and much more.
