Hersha Names Jerry Trieber Director of Internal Audit
AUGUST 30, 2006. Trieber will lead all facets of HHM's internal audit function, including focus on continued compliance and ongoing implementation of HHM's internal controls and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
"Jerry is an industry veteran who brings to Hersha Hospitality Management a wealth of financial and corporate experience to implement and enhance our internal controls and SOX compliance, in addition to all other aspects of internal audit," said Naveen Kakarla, Hersha Hospitality Management's executive vice president of administration. "Jerry's experience as a seasoned leader at Interstate Hotels and Resorts, specifically in their internal audit department that documented and tested internal controls over financial controls for compliance with SOX, will be valuable to HHM as a manager of hotel properties owned by publicly traded companies."
Prior to joining HHM, Trieber served as a senior advisor in the Business Risk Services practice at Ernst & Young LLP in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was responsible for assisting external clients with internal audit and other business risk related tasks. He also assisted large, multinational corporations in the documentation and testing of their internal controls over financial reporting for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
Prior to his work with Ernst & Young, Trieber served as a department manager in the Financial Review and Analysis (Internal Audit) Department at Interstate Hotels and Resorts, a hotel management firm based in Arlington, Virginia. In this role, Trieber led and performed financial and operational audits of the company's more than 200 hotels, corporate housing operations, and its corporate office. Trieber also played an integral role in the project management of Interstate's successful documentation and testing of its internal controls in accordance with Section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley.
Trieber is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE), and a certified ServSafe Food Safety Manager. Trieber is an active member of several professional associations, including Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals ("HFTP"), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and is an Associate Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Trieber is also a speaker at HFTP Annual Conventions and Trade Shows, HFTP Club and Hotel Controller Conferences, and has written a bylined article that appeared in The Bottom Line, a journal published by the HFTP.
