Hilton Announces Tentative Union Agreement
BEVERLY HILLS, CA, October 16, 2006. Hilton has announced a tentative agreement with UNITE HERE on a new contract covering the Hilton Toronto and Hilton Toronto Airport hotels.
The agreement is subject to ratification by Hilton's employees who are members of UNITE HERE Local 75. The agreement features improved pay, pension and health care provisions. Specific details will be released after the ratification vote, which is scheduled to take place shortly.
"We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement that is fair and reasonable, rewarding employees for their hard work while enabling the company to remain competitive in the Toronto market," said Matthew J. Hart, president and chief operating officer of Hilton Hotels Corporation.
"Travel and tourism are vital components of Toronto's economy. Hilton is proud to be a part of that vitality by providing more than 350 jobs at its downtown hotel and 250 jobs at its airport hotel," Mr. Hart added.
Toronto is the sixth major collective bargaining agreement that Hilton and UNITE HERE have successfully negotiated this year. Along with Chicago, New York, Puerto Rico, San Francisco and Hawaii, the agreement for Toronto recognizes Hilton as a hotel management company of choice for the Union and is another positive development since Hilton and UNITE HERE announced their "Partnership for Future Growth" in July 2006.
