Jamaica Reports Record Arrivals
SEPTEMBER 25, 2006. Visitor arrivals are continuing to reach new highs as Jamaica records the highest arrival figures for the month of August.
The Island saw an increase of 20.1 per cent with 141,631 visitors compared to 117,898 for the same period last year. Strong growth from the UK has been sustained over the past twelve months, with Jamaica enjoying consistent UK arrival increases every single month.
Reflecting the overall uplift experienced by Jamaica on the year to date, the UK market is reporting a continuation of its strong growth which saw an increase in visitor arrivals of more than 30 per cent for August, a significant increase to 17,274 from last year's 13,229. These latest figures continue the significant growth patterns from the UK market for the year to date with an overall increase of 17.3 per cent for the January-August period year on year.
Jamaica Tourist Board's Regional Director for UK, Ireland and Northern Europe, Elizabeth Fox welcomed the news, "It's wonderful to see the levels of sustained growth that we have experienced over the past year. 2006 has produced fantastic visitor numbers for Jamaica, particularly from the UK, and August's figures indicate an extremely strong third quarter. Early figures for Q4 indicate that this trend is set to continue. We'd like to say a big thank you to travel agents too as they have continued to provide tremendous support in selling Jamaica."
"The message we have been communicating through our campaigns both here in the UK and globally is the diversity of Jamaica's tourism product and the many different experiences the Island has to offer. The overall arrival figures for August demonstrate that visitors from around the globe are discovering their very own Jamaica," concluded Fox.
