The Reef 28 Appoints Margarita Carrillo as New Executive Chef
Chef Margarita Carrillo joins The Reef 28 to revamp the adults-only, all-inclusive hotel's Mexican restaurant Cachito. Bringing her authentic Mexican style and culinary knowledge to the table, Chef Carrillo is creating a new concept and entirely new menu that will be available to guests beginning mid-December 2018.
Chef Carrillo has been a global ambassador of Mexican cuisine for more than three decades, and recently the Government of Mexico named her the Culinary Ambassador of Mexico. She has been at the culinary helm of gala dinners around the globe attended by world leaders, including U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama; Japan's Crown Princess Masako; Prime Minister of Germany Angela Merkel and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu; as well as countless celebrities that include Cindy Crawford, Harrison Ford, Lance Armstrong, Rick Bayless and Massimo Bottura.
Born and raised in Mexico, Chef Carrillo has dedicated the past 35 years to researching, studying, teaching and cooking traditional Mexican food and in 2013 won the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Hospitality Sciences. In addition, she is a member of the Conservatory of the Gastronomic Culture of Mexico—the small group of professionals that campaigned to get Mexican cuisine recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
