Ken Daugherty Rejoins Salishan Resort as General Manager
Helmut Horn, executive chairman of Portfolio Hotels & Resorts, announced that Ken Daugherty was selected as the new general manager of Salishan Resort. One of Daugherty's first positions in the hospitality industry was working in food and beverage and culinary management for the property beginning in the 1980s. He rejoins the Salishan team after the award-winning property recently came under new ownership and management.
“There's a refreshed vision and direction at Salishan,” said Horn. “Daughtery brings the perfect combination of market knowledge and proven leadership skills to the Salishan team. We believe he's the best candidate to bring the property's new, high-touch service culture to life.”
The resort's new service model is designed to establish Salishan as the benchmark for hospitality in the Pacific Northwest. New owners, an affiliate of Alpha Wave Investors, LLC., recently announced a multi-million-dollar investment into the property which includes enhancements to the guest arrival and landscaping, upgrades to the lobby and attic lounge, a new luxury glamping experience, a treetop zipline tour and ropes challenge course, and high-energy mountain biking trails.
The resort also is re-emphasizing the arts by expanding its legendary art collection and offering a series of programs focused on art appreciation, education and techniques. Additionally, wellness has been embraced as a core value resort-wide. Finally, a compelling new culinary program will focus on casual, highly social coast-to-table dining.
“Ken Daughtery's well-rounded background is steeped in food and beverage, strong operational leadership and proven execution,” said Ken Cruse, founding partner and chief executive officer of Alpha Wave Investors. “We have confidence that he will implement our new vision for the resort which is grounded in high level service, exciting new eco-adventure offerings, social food and beverage, and a commitment to wellness, ecology and the arts.”
Daughtery brings nearly four decades of hospitality management and leadership to the Salishan team. Most recently, he was the general manager of Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Wash. Both Skamania and Salishan were originally created by famed Oregon developer John Gray.
Prior to leading the team at Skamania, Daugherty held several operational and development positions. He was director of operations for Scottford Enterprises overseeing Lake Okanogan Resort, Rancho Viejo Country Club, Makaha Resort and Golf Club among other business entities.
As director of development for the Americas with Dolce Hotels and Resorts, Daughtery oversaw more than $48 million in property renovations, set property design standards and worked closely with transition teams at several hotels and resorts. He also held several regional and property management positions with the company.
One of his first hospitality achievements was working at Salishan where he was named “Manager of the Year” in 1995 and helped build the property's successful food and beverage program.
