178-key ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino Opens on Japanese Island of Hokkaido Through Conversion

. April 25, 2014

Sapporo, Japan - April 25, 2014 - The world's most recognized hotel brand has entered Hokkaido, opening in the island's largest city, Sapporo, a city which is famous in itself for its abundance of year-round activities, locally-brewed beers and annual snow festival. ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino is the fourth Holiday Inn hotel to open in Japan, following the recent conversion of ANA Holiday Inn Kanazawa Sky in March.

The 178-room conversion hotel offers the perfect mix of business and pleasure for the comfort-seeking traveler to the city. To meet Holiday Inn standards, the hotel has undergone a major renovation: all guest rooms and the lobby have been completely refurbished, the all-day dining restaurant has been refreshed with new decor, whilst a completely new fitness centre will be added to the hotel. Those staying at the hotel are spoilt for choice with three different restaurants to choose from.

Located in Susukino, the hotel is in the centre of what is regarded as the most popular sightseeing spot for dining and entertainment in the city. There are plenty of dining outlets for travelers to get their fill of Sapporo's renowned specialty miso ramen, with more than 1,000 restaurants in the Susukino area alone.

Alan Watts, Chief Operating Officer, Japan and Australasia, IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) said: "We are pleased to introduce the first Holiday Inn hotel in Hokkaido, ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino, the opening of which comes on the back of the launch of ANA Holiday Inn Kanazawa Sky. Both Kanazawa and Hokkaido have always been popular with domestic travellers and we're definitely seeing an increase in these cities' appeal to international travellers too with plenty of things to see, do and experience. With the Holiday Inn name behind these two hotels, we know that international and domestic guests alike will enjoy the comfort, convenience and friendliness that the brand is renowned for."

Hokkaido welcomes over six million visitors annually, including almost 800,000 international visitors, who flock to the island to enjoy its spectacular nature, seafood and fresh farm produce, plenty of winter sports and hot springs. With balmy summer temperatures, Hokkaido becomes a retreat for travellers looking to escape the heat of the rest of the country.

IHG is the largest hotel operator in Japan with 33 hotels across four brands, including 7 InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, 16 Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts and 4 Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts.
