The Langham, Boston to Reveal $6 Million Modern Lobby Transformation

. August 03, 2012

August 3, 2012 - Boston's iconic hotel, The Langham, Boston, is in the final stages of an extensive renovation to the property's 6,000 square foot lobby, which will include a dramatic new entrance, reception area and dining enclave to complement the existing architecture. The Langham's innovative renovation plans, which total more than $6 million, consist of reconfiguring the hotel's first floor and adding a third dining venue—The Reserve. Housed in Boston's former Federal Reserve Bank building, The Langham is a national architectural landmark and one of the finest hotels in the city.

“The Langham brand has built a reputation of timeless elegance, and it is this experience that our guests have come to expect when staying at The Langham, Boston or at one of our Langham Hotels throughout the world,” said Serge Denis, Managing Director of The Langham, Boston. “Our transformed new entry will bring a newfound luxury and glamour to this historic building, which is sure to captivate the senses of our guests and enhance their stay.”

Spacious and airy, the hotel's grand lobby will boast an open, contemporary floor plan with stylish reception areas and a European-style champagne lounge aptly named The Reserve. Design plans shift pre-existing meeting spaces and offices in order to create generous, modern entrances and passageways while heightened ceilings and improved natural light breathe new life into the historic building.

The Reserve is a refined European-style champagne lounge in which mixed-height dining and conversation tables are encased by custom-made velvet banquets and tailored high-back chairs. Executive Chef Mark Sapienza's menu features a continental breakfast and dining from dawn until dusk. Chef Sapienza's light, New American fare with European influences features nibbles such as house smoked maple cured salmon and deviled eggs, while light entrees, soups and salads include Maine lobster salad sliders, croque monsieur, gazpacho andaluz and mozzarella pearls with organic tomatoes. Desserts include frozen key lime souffle and flourless manjari chocolate cake while libations include an extensive selection of champagne, wine and beer.

“The Reserve was designed to create a haven for our guests to sip, savor and socialize, and we developed the menu with that in mind,” said Chef Sapienza. “The light cuisine is the perfect complement to our libations and to the comfortable, relaxing setting of the lounge. In addition to the menu, we are also excited to launch a traditional Tiffin afternoon tea and look forward to introducing timeless British fare and exotic tea blends to the city.”

A signature of Langham Hotels, The Reserve will serve Tiffin afternoon tea, Boston's first traditional English tea service in partnership with the esteemed Wedgwood collection. With servers professionally trained by Wedgwood ambassadors to ensure proper presentation and etiquette throughout the service, custom designed Wedgwood fine bone china tea sets will present guests with a selection of the Langham's signature loose leaf teas and classic menu accompaniments such as savories, scones and pastries, all made in-house.
