Starwood Appoints Bill McCreary New GM of the Sheraton New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, LA, - July 5, 2006 - In yet another move demonstrating its proactive approach to making The Sheraton New Orleans the best hotel in the city, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide named veteran hotelier Bill McCreary as the hotel's new General Manager, effective immediately. With over 34 years in the hotel business, including a 17-year tenure with The Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin in Orlando, Florida, McCreary arrived at The Sheraton New Orleans most recently from Orlando and the Tishman Hotel Corporation where he served as its president overseeing the company's assets in New York, Chicago, Orlando, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles.
McCreary's expertise in the hotel industry perfectly poised him to guide The Sheraton New Orleans through its first hurricane season following Hurricane Katrina. "There was only one person who came to mind for the head post at The Sheraton New Orleans and that was Bill. His impeccable tenure with our company and within the industry will prove invaluable to the staff should any unique situations present themselves this summer. We are extremely pleased and grateful to have Bill in this new role," stated Kevin Regan, Senior Vice President-Operations, Southeast Region, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
McCreary's impressive career in the hospitality industry has not only earned him leadership appointments and the respect of his peers, it has also resulted in numerous awards including but not limited to the 1999 Hotelier of the year by the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association, inaugural inductee in Florida State University School of Hospitality Hall of Fame and the 2002 Hotelier of the Year by the Florida Hotel and motel Association. Awards however are not uncommon to Bill McCreary who prior to the many years he worked within the hotel industry, served 3 years in the United States Army where he was an Airborne Ranger and served with the First Cavalry Division Airmobile in Viet Nam garnering 30 military awards, commendations and recognitions including the Silver Star medal for gallantry in action and 3 Bronze Star medals. Even more impressive still has been McCreary's lifelong civic and philanthropic commitment to the communities in which he has lived and worked holding countless leadership positions such as director/officer of hotel associations in Oklahoma, Florida and Singapore, president of the world's largest regional hotel association - the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association, Board member of Visit Florida and Vice Chairman of the Heart of Florida United Way fund drive just to name a few.
