Harris Rosen Honored as "Best Corporate Citizen"
ORLANDO, FL, September 1, 2006. -The readers of Orlando Magazine have spoken and agree Harris Rosen, founder and president of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, does much more than create award-winning vacation and convention destinations, such as the new 1,500-room Rosen Shingle Creek, opening next week on Sept. 9. His multi-million dollar philanthropic efforts and genuine community loyalty positions him as a role model among Central Florida's corporate citizens.
Orlando Magazine readers named Rosen "Best Corporate Citizen of 2006" and also named Jack's Place, the fine dining restaurant at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando that was named after Mr. Rosen's father Jack, as the "Best Restaurant on International Drive for 2006." The magazine, which surveys its readers for this annual poll, says the list is a guide to some of the "many wonderful businesses and individuals that help make The City Beautiful a great place to live."
"I'm truly honored with these distinctions," states Rosen. "Central Florida has been my home for over three decades now and I am fortunate to be able to assist and work with the citizens of this community." Rosen continues by admitting that while he does not work for the recognition, he is thankful for it with the hopes that his goodwill will lead others to share their lives as well.
Rosen has also donated more than $22 million to the University of Central Florida for the creation of a world-class school of hospitality management, and he has become involved in such diverse projects as "Water for Haiti," raising funds to purchase specialized water filtration devices in order to provide fresh drinking water to one million people in Haiti and "The Bronze Statue Program" at Bethune-Cookman College. Most recently, Rosen pledged $3.5 million to build a Southwest Orlando Jewish Community Campus in Dr. Phillips. The Campus will bear the name, "The Jack and Lee Rosen Southwest Orlando Jewish Community Campus," in honor of Mr. Rosen's parents.
Over the course of the last thirty plus years, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has grown from 256 rooms to more than 6,500. Today, the Rosen family of hotels, which includes the new Rosen Shingle Creek, the award-winning Rosen Centre and Rosen Plaza, and four leisure properties in the Orlando tourist corridor, remain committed to providing outstanding service as influenced by his earlier positions.
