GM Chris Mander Retiring
Served InterContinental as Regional VPO and GM of Chicago Hotel
CHICAGO, IL, February 8, 2008. The InterContinental Chicago (505 N. Michigan) will bid farewell to longstanding General Manager Chris Mander this February. Having been in Chicago for twelve years, Mander served not only as General Manager of the property situated along Chicago's magnificent mile, but also as InterContinental Hotels Group Regional Vice President of Operations for the Midwest and Canada. Since beginning his career in hospitality 35 years ago in Helsinki, Finland, Mander has worked all over the globe in operations, finance and corporate positions in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Always active in the community, Mander currently sits on the boards of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, The Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, the British American Business Chamber and is a member of the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, a Certified Master Innholder and a Freeman of the City of London and is a member of MENSA.
Having traveled the globe, Mander has decided to stay in Chicago, attesting to his love of and connection to the city. Not one for a laidback retirement, Mander will continue to consult with hotel management firms and plans to be actively involved with local charities and the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid committee.
