Puerto Rico Develops Interactive Tours

. October 14, 2008

SAN JUAN, PR, August 14, 2007. Puerto Rico are launching EyeTour Puerto Rico, an interactive tour guide which is available through the GoToPuertoRico.com website, and offers innovative and interactive tools for consumers to use when planning to visit Puerto Rico.

The materials include free, downloadable Island guides that can be played on a computer and/or on video-enabled mobile devices, such as iPods. Featuring striking videos, vivid images and original music, the narrated guides educate visitors on the exciting tourism attractions available in Puerto Rico and are available in an audio-only format as well. Additionally, users have the option to download EyeMap- free and printable colour maps that can be viewed on iPods or other players with video screens.

Developed with sponsorship from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company by Guide-Pod Inc. (a Puerto Rican enterprise), EyeTour contains video tours of forty sites of interest in the Old San Juan district, including the ever-popular El Morro Fort, the San Juan Cathedral, the Casals Museum and San Sebastian Street, amongst others. It is expected that within the next year, additional interactive tours of major attractions around the Island such as El Yunque Rainforest will be published. Moreover, EyeTour will soon offer users the opportunity to download video segments on how to cook authentic Puerto Rican dishes.

The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), Terestella Gonz'alez Denton, stated, "When researching and deciding which destinations to visit, it is common knowledge that the internet has become an essential tool for visitors. And indeed, tools such as the iPod are devices commonly used by travellers. In this regard, the project EyeTour Puerto Rico places the island at the forefront of implementing interactive services that facilitate and enrich our visitors' experience." She added, "This initiative is a testament to the innovative spirit of our Island's youth, as well as a testament to the potential for economic development that the Puerto Rican tourism industry possesses. We are proud to support small Puerto Rican businesses to better serve our visitors."

To ensure the quality of the historical veracity of the material, Guide-Pod Inc. collaborated with a noted historian and head professor of the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Arturo D'avila, in the creation of this software. EyeTour Puerto Rico can be accessed from the PRTC webpage www.gotopuertorico.com.
