Access San Francisco

New, Free Guide for Travelers with Disabilities Available

. October 14, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 18, 2007. Access San Francisco is now available from the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau (SFCVB). Compiled by Access Northern California (ANC), this free publication provides essential information for anyone planning an accessible trip to San Francisco.

The 48-page guide offers detailed access information on more than 100 San Francisco-area hotels, restaurants and attractions, as well as information on accessible transportation, local organizations for individuals with disabilities, wheelchair rentals and medical supply dealers.

All properties in the Access San Francisco guide were personally inspected by ANC. ANC is a Berkeley-based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote accessible travel and outdoor recreation in Northern California.

"Accurate access information is hard to find, so I'm very proud of the fact that ANC visited every property included in this access guide. Seeing is believing as far as access is concerned," says Bonnie Lewkowicz, founder of ANC.

Now in its fourth edition, Access San Francisco was made possible with assistance from the SFCVB, the San Francisco Mayor's Office on Disability, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and Weaver Multimedia Group.

"Access San Francisco is easy to use, yet it contains all the access information travelers need. For example, we included the hotel and restaurant information in tables, but we also listed the access features that could not be depicted by icons in the notes section," Lewkowicz adds.

A free Access San Francisco visitor kit can be ordered from the SFCVB online at http://onlysf.sfvisitor.org/plan_your_trip/access_guide.asp, or by email at [email protected], or by calling 415-391-2000 or 415-392-0328 TTY. Copies are also available at the SFCVB Visitor Information Center located on the lower level of Hallidie Plaza, 900 Market St., open daily from 9 am May-October, closed on Sundays November-April; closing hours vary. After Sept. 1, 2007 large print versions, Braille and audiocassettes will also be available from the Mayor's Office on Disability, 415-554-6789 or 415-554-6799 (TTY) or email at [email protected].
