Puerto Rico's Condado Plaza in Transformation

. October 14, 2008

SAN JUAN, PR, September 13, 2007. The Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino furthers its extraordinary transformation with a much-needed Royal Ballroom reconstruction merging lavish comfort with modern technology. In this comprehensive redesign, eminent interior designer Leo A. Daly unleashes his sophisticated vision to revitalize the Condado area of San Juan for local residents as well as leisure and business travelers. The Royal Ballroom transformation is a significant part of the multi-million dollar redesign and refurbishment of the Condado Plaza currently taking place.

Leo Daly's inspiration for the Royal Ballroom's new look was the hotel's historic location, Condado. Daly elected to bring the visually-stimulating environment of Old San Juan and the scenic Condado Lagoon indoors to fully encourage creativity. With his vision, the Royal Ballroom captures the history and architecture of San Juan's dynamic culture with the benefits of modern technology and functionality.

The Royal Ballroom at Condado Plaza is unique not only for its remarkable design, but also for offering guests and event patrons spectacular day and night views of the nearby waters and providing access to natural daylight through floor-to-ceiling windows. The 8,090-square-foot ballroom's two-tiered design, stunning stage and creative finishes combine to create the feel of a classic 1950's dinner club with a modern twist. The Leo A. Daly design team created an elegant and sophisticated ballroom that not only evokes such famed nightspots as the Copacabana, but also reflects contemporary Puerto Rico with its fresh, clean lines and vibrant colors.

The ballroom's finishes offer a refined backdrop for a variety of activities and special events. Cream patent leather upholstered walls create a neutral background, which is contrasted by the bold carpeting that floods the space. The carpet's stylized hibiscus detail and tropical undertones incorporate vivid hues of red, pink and taupe that capture Puerto Rico's vivid culture. The stage's dramatic proscenium is wrapped in a patent leather tufting that features an over-scaled button detail concealing the detailed lighting elements. The glass railings that divide the ballroom's two tiers include vertical strings of brushed-nickel spheres to lend Art Deco flair.

The Royal Ballroom's custom-designed European three-tiered chandelier and one-of-a-kind furnishings add further aesthetic appeal for business travelers and meeting planners looking for more than an average event space. The room's stunning light fixture is composed of floating rings surrounded with contemporary glass beads, more resembling an eye-catching piece of jewelry than a chandelier. Such visually arresting details are what make the space especially exciting.

For evening events, the Royal Ballroom provides guests with a full-service, top-shelf cocktail bar. Influenced by local energy, rich colors and bold design elements, the bar further enhances the sophisticated look and feel of the Royal Ballroom. The bar incorporates an abundance of mirrored surfaces, striking star designs that echo the stage details, and LED lighting components that can be adjusted to reflect the particular theme of any occasion.

The two-level ballroom is accented by the expansive lobby, crisp, bright foyer and spacious outdoor terrace offering guests the option to incorporate the tropical, lagoon-front pool area into open-air cocktail functions as well. Additional outdoor settings include the Ocean Garden and Main Pool area, totaling an outdoor experience that can accommodate groups of up to 800. Combined with the hotel's existing space, the Condado's event offerings include a total 18 individual conference rooms with two larger ballrooms, and 41,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting space.
