. October 14, 2008

MASHANTUCKET, CT, September 12, 2007. A new culinary destination is rising in southeastern Connecticut with today's announcement that Junior's Restaurant, the landmark New York eatery famous for its legendary cheesecake for more than 50 years, will open at MGM Grand at Foxwoods in spring 2008. The first Junior's to open outside of New York City is just one of four highly anticipated restaurants set to debut at the luxury resort casino, a group that also includes celebrity chef Michael Schlow's Italian restaurant, Alta Strada.

"Junior's is an iconic brand, synonymous with New York, and we're delighted to bring it to MGM Grand at Foxwoods," said John O'Brien, president of Foxwoods Resort Casino. "This is just another example of how we are raising our culinary profile at Foxwoods while also elevating southeastern Connecticut to the forefront of the East Coast dining scene."

Located off the resort's main lobby, the 250-seat, 8,100-square-foot Junior's, will accommodate guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A full bar, take-out counter and bakery will also be available. For those guests seeking a quick fix while gaming, a 600-square-foot Junior's Coffee Bar will be conveniently located on the main casino floor.

Upon entry into Junior's, diners are greeted with a wealth of Brooklyn imagery, Junior's artifacts and a showcase of the restaurant's legendary desserts. Taking a "little bit of Brooklyn" into southeastern Connecticut, architect Jay Haverson of Haverson Architecture and Design has created an homage to Junior's home borough. Depicted in oversized murals along the walls are iconic images from Brooklyn past and present, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Ebbets Field, the Dodgers and the famed Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island. A pave of crystal ball lightings hang from the ceiling at varied lengths, illuminating the dining spaces and enhancing the retro-1960s d'ecor.

"We're thrilled to open our first restaurant outside of New York City at such an exciting destination as MGM Grand at Foxwoods," said Alan Rosen, third generation co-owner of the storied restaurant chain. "This venture is a great opportunity for us to expand the Junior's brand by partnering with another iconic institution."

Junior's landmark restaurant located in Brooklyn, NY has been known as the "home of New York's best cheesecake" since its founding. Junior's at MGM Grand at Foxwoods is the fourth location of this coveted restaurant establishment and will serve the same menu that consumers have craved since 1950. Not only will patrons delight their taste buds with tempting cheesecakes, but they will also find a menu of hearty comfort food. From Brooklyn Style Buffalo Wings and Colossal Shrimp Cocktail to traditional sandwiches, reubens, steaks and salads, there is something on the menu for everyone. "Junior's Famous Barbecue" menu of chicken, seafood and ribs will also be available along with the "Most Fabulous Chef's Specialties" such as Hungarian Beef Goulash, Brisket of Beef, Baked Meat Loaf, Chicken or Shrimp Parmigiana and Linguini with Jumbo Italian Meatballs. Just remember to leave room for dessert.
