Marriott Among the Diversity Elite

. October 14, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC, September 14, 2007. Marriott International has been recognized by Hispanic Business magazine as a "Diversity Elite 60" company.

The annual list measures companies' commitment to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy, and supplier diversity.

According to the September issue, the top companies on this year's list went beyond workforce diversity initiatives and implemented strategies to reach more Hispanic consumers and increase their business with minority and Hispanic-owned suppliers.

"We are very proud of Marriott's long-standing commitment to diversity in the workplace," said David Rodriguez, executive vice president of global human resources for Marriott International. "We believe in training and retaining a diverse workforce that will strengthen the Marriott system and all of its brands. Diversity at Marriott is valuing the differences that make each person unique and strengthen the team."

Marriott's efforts towards inclusion are driven by the Committee for Excellence, which was established in 2003 to set goals, including diverse hotel ownership. This summer Marriott broke ground on its first Hispanic owned hotel in Washington, D.C.

Marriott's diversity efforts have received broad recognition. Most recently, Marriott has been recognized by LATINA Style magazine as one of the "50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work For in the U.S." Additionally, Marriott was recognized earlier this year by Hispanic Trends magazine as one of the "Top 50 Corporations for Supplier Diversity."
