OCTOBER 9, 2007. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) President and CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA, has been awarded the Above and Beyond Award at The Lodging Conference, September 25-28, 2007, in Phoenix, Ariz.

This award is given in recognition of a lodging industry leader who not only excels professionally, but demonstrates a commitment to their community and to helping others.

'Joe's biography speaks for itself,' said Morris Lasky, chairman of The Lodging Conference. 'He does so much good work for the industry and for the community, both through AH&LA and in his personal time, he was a clear choice to receive the Above and Beyond Award.'

McInerney, a 45-year veteran of the hospitality industry, spends time on a variety of humanitarian activities, including sitting on the board of trustees at the Boston University Medical Center and St. Vincent De Paul Village, a homeless shelter and rehabilitation center in San Diego. He is an active member of the American Ireland Fund San Diego, a charitable organization for both the north and south of Ireland.

In support of professional development for the future of the hospitality industry, he currently serves on the board of trustees for The Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management at New York University, and the University of Delaware School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. In addition, he represents the industry to General Colin Powell's charitable organization, America's Promise, and mentors several inner-city students each year in conjunction with National Groundhog Job Shadow Day.
