OCTOBER 21, 2007. Portsmouth, New Hampshire celebrates a "Vintage Christmas" in ways that are cherished holiday traditions: Candlelight Stroll and decorated historic houses at Strawbery Banke Museum, "An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker" by the Ballet of New England and other holiday shows every night at historic landmark The Music Hall and out-of-the-ordinary, tax-free shopping in couture boutiques, artisans' galleries and antique stores tucked in 19th century storefronts along brick sidewalks.

Wentworth By the Sea Hotel & Spa joins in the festivities, starting with a free celebration the first night the strings of white lights are turned on to outline the whole Victorian wedding cake of a building. The celebration will include ice sculptures, a quartet performing carols, Santa arriving by horse-drawn carriage, costumed members of the Ballet of New England "An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker" and complimentary holiday refreshments. Costumed Ballet of New England "Nutcracker" characters will also visit the hotel's decorated lobby each afternoon when complimentary hot cider or hot chocolate and cookies are offered to visitors.
