Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort Tops Cond'e Nast Traveler's 2005 Green List

Resort Celebrates Honor With Special Promotion

. October 14, 2008

VANUA LEVU, Fiji - August 31, 2005. Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, the award-winning, five-star property acclaimed as one of the world's leading vacation destinations, announces it received the top score on Cond'e Nast Traveler's 2005 Green List, which recognizes outstanding examples of ecotourism. In celebration, the resort is offering the Eco-Paradise Package" for all guests looking to combine luxury, pampering and exceptional dining with an unsurpassed range of eco-friendly activities.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort was developed a decade ago, when the creators of Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, and Jean-Michel Cousteau came together to offer a luxurious and environmentally responsible resort in Fiji overlooking the pristine Savusavu Bay. The team established the property's ethic: 'to take as little from the environment as possible, to give back as much as we can, and to respect others with whom we share this place.' This mission has since defined the resort's efforts in conservation, stewardship and community assistance, as well as sharing Fiji's unique experiences with guests. Today, the resort is an international favorite for romance, honeymoons and weddings; families; and water enthusiasts.

The top Green List ranking recognizes the resort's long-time commitment to the local community, environment and culture, and to guests who come from around the world to share an extraordinary place. "This honor affirms that ecotourism, a luxurious guest experience and award-winning food, service and accommodations are not mutually exclusive," said Michael Freed, managing partner of Post Ranch Inn and Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort. "Doing right by the environment does not mean sacrificing quality, as those who savor the fresh produce from our organic garden can confirm. Likewise, involving guests in the local community and culture, through village visits and mangrove walks with our Medicine Man, doesn't detract from holiday relaxation, but adds to it immeasurably. We are excited to help redefine ecotourism for today's more evolved, discriminating world traveler - those who wish to marry respect for people and place, authenticity, and an incredible guest experience."

In celebration of the Green List honor, the resort is offering the "Eco-Paradise Package," a collection of activities and gifts that highlight its earth-friendly approach. The package includes: a signed copy of Dr. Richard Murphy's book "Coral Reefs: Cities Under the Sea," a richly illustrated coffee table book on Fiji's reefs with an introduction by Jean-Michel Cousteau; a Resort Course with two-tank dive to introduce guests to SCUBA diving; a selection of Pure Fiji skin products made from all natural plants harvested by rural Fijian communities; the Bula Boys CD, "Live from the Tanoa Bowl," featuring Fijian music by the resort's singers; and champagne upon arrival to join the celebration.

All package components are offered one per bure with a minimum stay of seven nights or more in any type of accommodations. Package prices, which begin from US$1,873 per person for seven nights in Gardenview bures, are based on double occupancy, and include all meals and non-alcoholic bottled beverages, ground transfers to and from Savusavu Airport, and complimentary daily excursions and resort activities. Rates do not include 12.5% Fiji VAT tax or gratuities. The Eco-Paradise Package is available on new U.S. bookings only, and is good for travel through March 31, 2006 (excluding holidays). For information or reservations, contact the resort at 800-246-3454, via email at [email protected] or online at www.fijiresort.com.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort balances its dedication to the Fijian environment and culture with luxury and pampering. Guests can indulge in the extensive spa program featuring traditional Fijian reatments and massage. Exceptional dining is an integral part of the resort experience, as Chef Vijendra Kumar uses the freshest ingredients, including local seafood and produce from the resort's organic garden, to create award-winning cuisine served in the restaurant, poolside, at pier's end, or at private dine-out bures beachside. Accommodations are Fijian-style, thatched-roof bures with garden or ocean views. Last year, the resort introduced the extraordinary Villa, a 2,000 sq.-foot grand-scale bure overlooking the Koro Sea.

The resort offers an unprecedented array of complimentary guest activities, many led by the resident Marine Biologist or award-winning Cultural Host. These include Fijian ecological tours and seminars such as reef walks, Coral City slide shows, mangrove tours, organic garden tours, stargazing, guided snorkeling trips, and a traditional Kava ceremony. Also onsite are two swimming pools, snorkeling, kayaking, daily yoga, tennis, water aerobics, sailing, private beach facilities and nightly entertainment by the Bula Boys. As its name suggests, the resort also features one of the top dive operations in Fiji, one dedicated to preserving the delicate reefs.
