Pala Mesa in San Diego County Re-Opens Following Wildfires

. October 14, 2008

NOVEMBER 1, 207. Officials of the Pala Mesa Golf Resort today announced that the property has re-opened following a temporary evacuation resulting from the recent wildfires in San Diego County. Located in the foothills of the North San Diego/Temecula wine country approximately 55 miles from downtown San Diego, the property served as a base camp for some 800 emergency officials and firefighters during the fire crisis that impacted Southern California. Fortunately, the resort and golf courses were unharmed by the fires; however, some of the property's outlying buildings were damaged.

"As soon as we were given permission, our staff returned to thoroughly clean and quickly bring the Pala Mesa Golf Resort back to our historic 'four-star' physical condition," said Jeff McIntyre, Gemstone principal. "Like everyone else, we are anxious to return to 'business-as-usual,' which is evidenced by the fact that we are fully booked for the coming weekend, most of our tee times are reserved and we even have several weddings set to take place as scheduled."

Though all guests are welcome to return this weekend, the hotel is waiving cancellation fees for anyone unable to keep their reservations through the next 7 days. "Obviously, numerous people were affected by these tragic fires. If in any small way we can help to make their lives easier, we gladly will cancel reservations without the usual fees."

While guests were evacuated from the resort, the property only closed briefly Monday, Oct. 29th, and re-opened the next day to serve firefighters and EMTs. The 133-room resort acted as a base camp for emergency workers dealing with the wildfires. The Pala Mesa Golf Resort provided food and lodging to more than 800 workers.

"We would be remiss not to express our sincere gratitude to the men and women who worked courageously to battle the blazes," McIntyre added. "Without their aid, not only would the Pala Mesa Golf Resort have been destroyed, but countless other homes and businesses would have been lost."

Surrounded by avocado and citrus groves, the Pala Mesa Golf Resort is located in Fallbrook, Calif. The property is situated on 205 acres and features one of Southern California's most challenging golf courses, an 18-hole, par 72 layout rated 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest. The resort also features the Aquaterra, an upscale sushi & seafood bar. Amenities include more than 17,600 square feet of flexible meeting space, newly renovated guestrooms and suites with private balconies or patios, outdoor heated pool, Jacuzzi and upscale wedding facilities.
