Grand Opening Date Set For Nicklaus Course at Bay Point
BAY POINT, Fla. - Aug. 31, 2005 - Bay Point Resort is proud to announce that its newly redesigned "Nicklaus Course at Bay Point" will open to the public on Sept. 17, 2005.
This par-72 championship course is the first Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida and is managed by Birmingham, Alabama-based Honours Golf Company. Lead designer Gary Nicklaus and the Nicklaus Design team from North Palm Beach, Florida, have created a completely new layout with a design goal to transform an extremely difficult golf course (the former Lagoon Legend course) into a fun and strategic layout that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy. The new Nicklaus Course at Bay Point serves as a complement to the resort's recently renovated Meadows Course with its challenging yet golf friendly design.
The new golf course measures more than 7,000 yards and features modern grasses that provide premier putting surfaces resulting in faster, smoother greens. The course is expected to boast an estimated slope rating between 125 -145 and a course rating between 70.0 and 73.5. The design features "illusionary" bunkers, strategically placed to tempt golfers through a "risk/reward" scenario. The course offers a variety of fairways with plateaus and uncharacteristic elevation changes unique to this region.
Many holes are quite memorable. Hole No. 17 features a green design reminiscent of a "fish bowl," as some golf media have described it. This design is where the green is actually recessed below the surrounding landscape, creating a challenging semi-blind shot to the green. Hole No. 5 offers spectacular panoramic views of the Grand Lagoon and St. Andrews Bay. The new design incorporates the natural terrain of majestic scrub oaks, Florida pine trees, sandy-white waste areas and salt-water marshes.

The Bay Point Golf Club is currently hosting a contest with WBPC- FM 95.1 to select the "First Foursome to Play the Nicklaus Course at Bay Point" when the course opens for public play on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. Individuals may enter the contest drawing either by logging onto www.baypointgolf.com or by appearing in person at Bay Point Resort's Meadows Golf Shop. The foursome will be announced on Monday, Sept. 12, on WBPC- FM 95.1. Golfers also will have the opportunity to win a Club Car and E-Z-GO golf cart along with other prizes.
