Longwood Gardens' 2008 Calendar of Events

JANUARY 2, 2008. Longwood Gardens, a horticultural jewel in the Brandywine Valley, presents its 2008 Calendar of Events:

Winter Escape and Orchid Extravaganza(January 19-March 31). Escape winter's chill and visit a lush oasis as thousands of orchid blooms fill Longwood's conservatory. Breathtaking displays, including the award-winning Living Wall of Orchids, enchant visitors. An exhibit of creative orchid art by local and national artists accents the beauty of these magnificent flowers. In March, millions of bulbs begin to bloom outside creating a palette of early spring color.

An exciting new series of musical events set amidst an orchid paradise, Longwood Gardens Jazz Club Concerts are presented throughout this event: Jazz ing'enue Sophie Milman (January 31); bold and trendy Turtle Island Quartet (February 21); saxophonist Kenny Garrett (March 13).

From March 15-30, it's Easter at Longwood Gardens. Hundreds of fragrant lilies and orchids perfume the Conservatory. The International Orchid Show and Sale (March 28-30) showcases rare and popular varieties of this prized plant.

Spring Blooms (April 1-May 23). More than 235,000 outdoor bulbs come to life to paint the landscape in glorious spring color. Tulips, dogwoods, wisteria and more herald spring's arrival indoors and out. Special weekends spotlight outdoor cuisine, kites and Arbor Day Fun.

Nature's Castles (April 26-September 1) is a spectacular display of treehouses created around the Gardens. Vintage wines, great jazz, and beautiful gardens star at the Wine & Jazz Festival (May 2-4)

Festival of Fountains (May 24-September 1). Experience Longwood's famous illuminated fountain display Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as the gardens burst with summer blooms and stunning waterlilies. Our new Meadow Concert Series (June 7, July 12, August 25) features top recording artists performing live with the summer splendor of Longwood's Meadow as the backdrop.

Fireworks and Fountains (May 25, July 4, July 19, August 31, September 6) delight and amaze visitors with fireworks like you have never seen before! Spectacular fireworks and colorful fountains light up the night sky to the tune of stirring music. You won't want to miss any of these spectacular shows: Celebrate America, Big Band & Broadway and Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony.

Autumn's Colors (September 2-November 23). Celebrate the harvest season amid the glowing reds, brilliant golds and bright oranges of nature's foliage. Gorgeous gourds, giant pumpkins, thousands of blooming chrysanthemums, tasty autumnal treats and music throughout the gardens complement this fun fall festival.

A Longwood Gardens Christmas (November 27-January 11, 2009). A holiday fantasy awaits visitors with elegantly decorated trees, waves of poinsettias, and an expanded outdoor light display that will dazzle. Ice skating shows under the stars, sing-a-longs with Longwood's newly restored 10,010 pipe Aeolian organ, strolling singers, choir and hand bell concerts fill the gardens with the sounds of the season. Special festivities on New Year's Eve for the entire family complete your holiday season.
