Ocean Edge Breaks Ground on Expansion

. October 14, 2008

JANUARY 15, 2008. Ocean Edge Resort & Club on Cape Cod broke ground on a $18.5 million expansion, which includes 7,500 square feet of meeting space throughout the property, and renovations of the historic Nickerson Mansion interior rooms.

Renovation and expansion is taking place on both the Bayside and Resort sides of Ocean Edge. On the Bayside, 5,000 square feet of new meeting and function space will be added behind the Mansion with views overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The Resort side will see the addition of the Linx Pavillion, a 2,500-square-foot venue with views of the 18th hole of the resort's new Nicklaus Design golf course.

"The Nickerson Mansion is rich with history, and we came to the decision that the former summer home of the Nickerson family should be enjoyed by everyone who visits Ocean Edge," said Ocean Edge General Manager Robert J. Newman. "In recent years, these rooms have been used for private meetings and functions. Now it's time to open them up for all our guests and visitors to enjoy and appreciate."

In the Mansion, the elegant Roscommon Room and Terrace and Nickerson Room will be converted from meeting to dining rooms. A bar and lounge will be added in the La Sallette Room, offering lobby tea by day and cocktail service at night.

The Roscommon Room and Terrace, the Nickerson family's original dining room, boasts an enormous fireplace and carved Italian wood paneling with views of the Bay. The Nickerson Room, the family's game room, features a large fireplace with the Nickerson family crest and a glass fishing case showcasing fishing rods from Roland Nickerson's time. Also in this room are three intricate glass stained windows imported from Germany, most notably the impetus behind the Ocean Edge "hospitality man" logo.

On the Resort side, the Linx Pavillion, a 2,500-square-foot transparent room and canopy will be added adjacent to the Linx Restaurant. With a sweeping view of the 18th hole, the versatile Linx Pavillion will accommodate meetings, events and tournaments. Lighting and d'ecor can easily be changed to suit the venue, from twinkling lights for a casual starry night feel to elegant chandeliers for a more formal event.

Ocean Edge's new Nicklaus Design golf course will make its official grand opening debut in June 2008, but will be available for play on May 1. Ocean Edge Golf Course, one of Cape Cod's few private fairways, is open to club members and resort guests. The greens on the par-72 course, with strategically placed bunkering and sand traps, have been customized to United States Golf Association specifications.

The renovation fever at Ocean Edge can be attributed to a number of factors, namely, the success of the newly formed Ocean Edge Club, which began selling memberships just over a year ago. Two hundred twenty-five golf memberships have been sold to date, with plans to cap off golf memberships at 300. For the non-golfer, sports memberships are available with complete access to all resort pools, fitness, tennis, and social activities, as well as private beach privileges.

Other factors have contributed to the renaissance of new projects at Ocean Edge. Since General Manager Robert Newman's arrival in January 2007, RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room), a closely followed industry indicator, has increased 19% from last year. Twenty thousand new guests visited Ocean Edge in 2007, while the resort was up 7,000 room nights versus levels last year.

The new ballroom and meeting space on the Bayside is being designed by Niemitz Design Group Inc. and Cambridge Seven Associates of Cambridge, MA. Gauthier~Stacy Inc. is responsible for the Mansion renovation, providing interior design and converting meeting rooms to dining and lounge areas.
