NOVUM Hotel Group Sails North: Niu in Kiel isTaking Shape

BREMEN, HAMBURG, KIEL, DE. August 29, 2017 – The NOVUM Hotel Group intensifies expansion of its millennial brand niu in Northern Germany. Planning permission for this unforgettable hotel was already granted by the beginning of 2017, at the site of the former Karstadt department store on the Holstenstraße. Since then the 113-room hotel has been taking shape piece by piece over a space of almost 3100 square metres. The dynamic hotel group is renting this listed building from the company GVG Grundstücks- und Vermögensverwaltungs Andresen mbh. The hotel’s cast off? Expected by mid 2018.

niu Welly: a sailor’s yarn with a twist

niu Welly; the name given to niu in Kiel. Typically niu in style, from its name to its interior, the hotel reflects local and contemporary inspiring stories. Welly, named so lovingly after the footwear, is a must have in Kiel. Like the name, the theme at niu Welly revolves around life by the port and at sea. Maritime motifs such as gulls, oceans and sailors are prevalent and are tastefully interpreted. In this way niu Welly invigorates the senses of the young and also the young at heart. The design possesses a visibly stylish seafaring atmosphere, complimented by Nordic elements and materials such as solid wood, paddles and portholes. Combining these innovative highlights with the surprisingly urban, it’s easy to snap an instagram post against such a seafaring backdrop.

niu Welly provides a hub of connectivity and activity. While there may be a stiff breeze outside, inside a welcoming and cosy atmosphere awaits, especially in each smartly decorated berth. The hotel really is a hotspot, even for locals. At niu Welly you can enjoy seasonal and regional specialities from the galley. Then have a drink by the bar or let the music in the casual Living Lounge sail you to a new level of relaxation. As a guest, take full advantage of the conveniently situated flat screen TVs, USB ports, high speed Wi-Fi and a variety of plug sockets at your leisure.

niu Welly is situated in the very heart of the city centre, close to the main train station and the boating dock – the perfect starting point for sailing excursions, city strolls or highlights in the city’s events calendar, such as the Kieler Woche.

Coming Up In The December Online Hotel Business Review

Feature Focus
Hotel Law: Issues & Events
There is not a single area of a hotel’s operation that isn’t touched by some aspect of the law. Hotels and management companies employ an army of lawyers to advise and, if necessary, litigate issues which arise in the course of conducting their business. These lawyers typically specialize in specific areas of the law – real estate, construction, development, leasing, liability, franchising, food & beverage, human resources, environmental, insurance, taxes and more. In addition, issues and events can occur within the industry that have a major impact on the whole, and can spur further legal activity. One event which is certain to cause repercussions is Marriott International’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. This newly combined company is now the largest hotel company in the world, encompassing 30 hotel brands, 5,500 hotels under management, and 1.1 million hotel rooms worldwide. In the hospitality industry, scale is particularly important – the most profitable companies are those with the most rooms in the most locations. As a result, this mega- transaction is likely to provoke an increase in Mergers & Acquisitions industry-wide. Many experts believe other larger hotel companies will now join forces with smaller operators to avoid being outpaced in the market. Companies that had not previously considered consolidation are now more likely to do so. Another legal issue facing the industry is the regulation of alternative lodging companies such as Airbnb and other firms that offer private, short-term rentals. Cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Santa Monica are at the forefront of efforts to legalize and control short-term rentals. However, those cities are finding it’s much easier to adopt regulations on short-term rentals than it is to actually enforce them. The December issue of Hotel Business Review will examine these and other critical issues pertaining to hotel law and how some companies are adapting to them.
