Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya Earns Coveted Best Virtuoso Experience at the Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards

Andaz Mayakoba is the First Property to Win Virtuoso's Newest Award

RIVIERA MAYA, MX. August 28, 2017 – Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya is thrilled to announce their inclusion in the 2017 Virtuoso® Best of the Best Awards for the first-ever Best Virtuoso Experience Award. The resort received the award for their renowned Cultural Insider Experience, Frida’s Wardrobe, a unique and authentic cultural photography experience that pays tribute to the famed Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. The award ceremony took place on August 16, 2017 at the 29th annual Virtuoso Travel Week conference in Las Vegas and was attended by the top representatives in the travel industry.

Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, which opened December 2016, is the newest addition to the internationally acclaimed eco-destination Mayakoba. The resort’s breathtaking design reflects the native Mayan culture and features 214 guestrooms, including 41 luxury suites. The resort prides itself on bringing to life locally inspired, indigenous experiences and authentic Mexican hospitality through award-winning Cultural Insider experiences. The Frida’s Wardrobe experience was designed by Cultural Insider Sol Tamargo and pays tribute to the famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Kahlo was known to use her personal style as a way to express her creative heart and boundless imagination. This Cultural Insider experience reflects the Andaz brand promise to provide guests with inspiring and unscripted experiences through interaction with local culture. During the Frida’s Wardrobe guests are encouraged to follow suit by experimenting with Mexican inspired clothing and adapting them to their own unique style. As a takeaway, guests receive four professionally shot photographs that documents the expression of their own Mexican fusion style.

International luxury travel network Virtuoso surveyed thousands of agencies and elite travel advisors to identify the winners in each of the categories and only a very small fraction of the network’s 1,700 partners were recognized at Virtuoso Travel Week. Editors of VIRTUOSO LIFE, the network’s multi-award-winning magazine, provided their keen insight and hotel knowledge to identify the nominees from which Virtuoso advisors voted. The 2017 Best of the Best award recipients will be featured in the September/October issue of VIRTUOSO LIFE, reaching 200,000 upscale world travelers.

“We are thrilled to be honored with this distinguished award and we would like to thank Virtuoso, their travel agents and the guests they recommended,” said Tulio Baruch, Director of Sales and Marketing at Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya. “At Andaz Mayakoba, we want our guests to create memories that will last a lifetime. Coming Up In The December Online Hotel Business Review

Feature Focus
Hotel Law: Issues & Events
There is not a single area of a hotel’s operation that isn’t touched by some aspect of the law. Hotels and management companies employ an army of lawyers to advise and, if necessary, litigate issues which arise in the course of conducting their business. These lawyers typically specialize in specific areas of the law – real estate, construction, development, leasing, liability, franchising, food & beverage, human resources, environmental, insurance, taxes and more. In addition, issues and events can occur within the industry that have a major impact on the whole, and can spur further legal activity. One event which is certain to cause repercussions is Marriott International’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. This newly combined company is now the largest hotel company in the world, encompassing 30 hotel brands, 5,500 hotels under management, and 1.1 million hotel rooms worldwide. In the hospitality industry, scale is particularly important – the most profitable companies are those with the most rooms in the most locations. As a result, this mega- transaction is likely to provoke an increase in Mergers & Acquisitions industry-wide. Many experts believe other larger hotel companies will now join forces with smaller operators to avoid being outpaced in the market. Companies that had not previously considered consolidation are now more likely to do so. Another legal issue facing the industry is the regulation of alternative lodging companies such as Airbnb and other firms that offer private, short-term rentals. Cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Santa Monica are at the forefront of efforts to legalize and control short-term rentals. However, those cities are finding it’s much easier to adopt regulations on short-term rentals than it is to actually enforce them. The December issue of Hotel Business Review will examine these and other critical issues pertaining to hotel law and how some companies are adapting to them.
