. August 23, 2017

BROOKLYN, NY. August 23, 2017 - BD Hotels, led by developers Richard Born and Ira Drukier, is pleased to announce the appointment of Effie Tsavalias as General Manager of Pod Brooklyn, opening this September in the trendy Williamsburg neighborhood. Tsavalias brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role from previous hospitality experience and will oversee all aspects of hotel operations at the 249 room property. Tsavalias's role will include overseeing guest services, housekeeping, maintenance, sales, and spearheading the property's grand opening.

The next generation of innovative properties from BD Hotels and CB Developers takes the micro-hotel concept to the next level with modular guestrooms, making Pod Brooklyn the premiere modular hotel in NYC. The clever design by Garrison Architects in collaboration with Pod Hotel Design Director Vanessa Guilford weaves pod sized rooms with numerous courtyards, rooftops, and private event spaces, for guests seeking a wallet-friendly, interactive experience.

Tsavalias began her career in 2002 as a reservations agent at the Bryant Park Hotel for the property's pre-opening and opening phases before advancing to Assistant Front Office Manager. Most recently, she served as Director of Housekeeping at BD Hotel's sister property, The Maritime Hotel. During this time, Tsavalias successfully served as a consultant to assist in opening three other BD Hotel properties: The Bowery Hotel, Lafayette House, and The Jane Hotel.

“Effie's extensive background in hotel openings will ensure a successful launch of this next generation Pod,” states Managing Director David Bernstein. “Her passion for exceptional service and guest relations will take Pod Brooklyn and the Pod brand to the next level.”

Tsavalias graduated from Saint John's University and currently resides in Queens, New York. She loves to travel and is driven by foreign culture.

About The Pod Hotels

Hoteliers Richard Born and Ira Drukier developed BD Hotels' successful micro-hotel concept to accommodate the needs of today's savvy, “young-minded” traveler. BD was the first to introduce the micro-hotel model to New York City in 2007 with the launch of the original Pod Hotel, Pod 51, in Midtown East. Offering guests efficient, clean accommodations ranging from 60-120 square feet, and vibrant communal spaces and high-tech amenities, the hotel's values of affordability, community, and innovation immediately became a success. BD launched a second outpost, Pod 39, in June 2012, expanding on the formula of the original, introducing guests to a rooftop lounge, a vibrant communal “Play Room,” Salvation Taco restaurant, and wall-mounted iPads and projection screens. The micro-hotel phenomenon continuing, BD also launched the third Pod Hotel, Pod DC, making this the first property to be established outside of New York City. After launching Pod Brooklyn in September, the brand will open Pod Times Square totaling five Pod Hotels. Pod Brooklyn rates start at $125/night. thepodhotel.com
