Hospitality Professional Shares Commitment to Newark's Future with New Employer, Berger Organization

NEWARK, N.J. February 20, 2017 - As the Robert Treat Hotel prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary, the landmark property in downtown Newark is undergoing extensive renovations to its banquet and meeting facilities. In tandem with the “new” Robert Treat Hotel is its new director of sales, Artie Wassif, an industry veteran who shares a commitment to Newark's future with his new employer, Berger Organization, which owns and manages the hotel.

Wassif, who lives in Old Bridge, joined Berger in early January, spent 11 years as the catering sales manager for the Newark Club's Metropolitan Room; prior to that, he was assistant catering director at The Grand Prospect Hall, a major catering venue in Brooklyn. He has delivered hundreds of large-scale corporate and social events, business meetings and conferences, celebrity balls, fundraisers and political events throughout his hospitality career.

The Newark Club is closing and, wanting to stay in Newark, Wassif joined the Berger Organization, a privately owned, diversified real estate development company that develops and manages residential, commercial and hospitality properties throughout northern New Jersey and New York City. In addition to Robert Treat Hotel and the adjacent Robert Treat Conference Center, Berger's real estate portfolio includes significant office buildings in Newark's central business district.

“I believe in the growth and future of the city and the Bergers have made significant contributions to Newark's continuing resurgence, which appealed to me,” said Wassif. “Plus, Robert Treat is the only venue with the space and flexibility to serve the city's large corporations and legal community with ease.” Robert Treat Hotel has the region's largest ballroom and over 25,000 square feet of meeting rooms and banquet space, plus a rooftop space available for cocktail parties.

New Sales Director for the “New” Robert Treat Wassif's arrival at the hotel coincides with many updates throughout the banquet and meeting spaces. These include new carpeting and wall coverings in the banquet rooms, improved and updated light fixtures, and a complete remodel of the hotel's beautiful Crystal Room and Tri-State Ballroom. In addition, all meeting and banquet spaces are being equipped with the latest A/V equipment and other improvements to meet the needs of Newark's business community. A new executive chef has been hired and updated catering menus feature international and ethnic choices that reflect the area's multicultural tastes.

Wassif is looking forward to hosting many social and corporate events at the hotel and continue its status as a center for downtown Newark's continued renaissance. “One reason I joined the organization is that I love the Berger family's commitment to helping the community and improving the downtown area. I'm happy to be a part of it.”

Best Western Robert Treat Hotel is located at 50 Park Place on Military Park, across the street from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and walking distance from the Newark Museum, and Newark Penn Station and the city's light rail. For more information, visit www.rthotel.com.
