Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland to Undergo Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

. June 30, 2016

PERTHSHIRE, SL. June 30, 2016 - The iconic 5-star Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland announces an extensive renovation. The multi-million dollar revamp represents a substantial investment from new owner, Ennismore, to make the most of the rich heritage, beautiful architecture and stunning setting for which Gleneagles is renowned.

The first phase will be completed in May 2016 and includes a brand-new bar in the Dormy Clubhouse, conceived by esteemed British design house Macaulay Sinclair. With a relaxed, social setting, the bar will serve as a place for friends to mingle, and will offer a cozy dining experience with light snacks and shared plates. The bar will also boast an outstanding selection of locally sourced beers, including craft beers made at nearby De Brus Brewery in Dunfermline and Fallen Brewing Company in Stirling.

The investment also includes a redesign of approximately 30 bedrooms, the hotel's main bar, plus corridors and public areas throughout the property, to create relaxing and welcoming spaces for guests to socialize and enjoy views of the Perthshire countryside.

Collectively, the designs will pay homage to the hotel's history and reflect Gleneagles' distinctly Scottish identity. A contemporary twist will offer a stylish, welcoming and luxurious environment. Fixtures and fittings include almost 875 yards of marble dado and baseboards; more than 200 light fixtures in custom-made antique brass and cut glass; and more than 1,090 yards of wool and velvet fabrics for cushions and throws, including those made by The Isle Mill - a 200 year old Scottish weaving company, renowned for its upholstery fabrics - and Bute Fabrics, a contemporary fabric designer based on the Isle of Bute, off the west coast of Scotland.

30 of the bedrooms, transformed by international interior designers Goddard Littlefair, will be enhanced with beautiful detailing, fabrics and colors to create a warm country estate feel. The makeover was inspired by Co-founder and Director Jo Littlefair's first visit to the property.

“Inspiration came from our initial visit to the hotel; the building's scale, presence and grandeur -as well as its incredible location, with rolling Scottish hills and an amazing palette of natural colors -inspired us,” said Littlefair. “We wanted the rooms to reflect that sense of emotional uplift via a warm, welcoming and reviving ambiance, with true five-star luxury communicated through highly individual room treatments and one-off touches in each room, as well as layering, texture and plenty of visual interest and intrigue, so that guests have a continual sense of discovery.”

While some of the newly-designed suites are inspired by country sports and game-keeping with tones of red and green, and fabrics such as Houndstooth and Harris Tweed, others will be softer and more feminine, expressed via a palette of taupes, silvers and greys with details such as buttons, kick pleats, and trims on leading fabric edges.

The hotel's main bar, which has served as the hotel's social hub for over 90 years, will be renovated by eminent design house David Collins Studio. The updated space will be an inviting, vibrant gathering place with an extensive drinks list and a local Scottish influence in its culinary offerings, including food that reflects hunting, shooting and fishing.

“The Gleneagles Hotel is an incredible property and beloved brand,” said Ennismore founder and CEO, Sharan Pasricha, who also owns The Hoxton hotel group. “It is known worldwide for its golf, but with 850 acres of beautiful Scottish countryside, there's potential to do so much more with the hotel. We really want to showcase the unrivaled range of facilities - the glorious playground of country pursuits and activities - we offer on the estate.”

“We're approaching the refurbishment with bold and creative decisions while respecting the hotel's history and building on its remarkable heritage. It's an organic progression - evolution, not revolution - and will ensure the iconic Gleneagles brand remains synonymous with luxury, and the hotel maintains its position among the leading hotels of the world,” said Pasricha.

“When Gleneagles first opened its doors in 1924, it was dubbed as the 'Palace in the Glens' and our aim is to surpass these glory days. We look forward to introducing our guests to the new spaces and continuing to provide them with a five-star experience in a setting that is effortlessly stylish and luxurious,” said Pasricha.

Gleneagles' top priority will continue to be providing an outstanding experience for guests. Plans are in place to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and the hotel will remain open throughout the refurbishment.
