Chinese Journalists to Explore 'Wide Open' Nevada

. October 14, 2008

CARSON CITY, NV, April 16, 2007. The Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) will lead 10 visiting Chinese travel journalists on a tour through Las Vegas April 19-21, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced today. The tour will highlight the best amenities in Las Vegas while also featuring outdoor adventures beyond the Strip.

"You really get the best of both worlds in Nevada, luxury in the city and natural wonders in the wide-open landscape," Krolicki, NCOT chair, said. "A media tour like this exposes world-class travel writers to the sometimes surprising variety of attractions our state has to offer."

The journalists represent some of China's most prolific publications, including the Beijing Morning Post, which reaches 300,000 readers; Trends Traveler magazine, which reaches more than 2 million readers; World Traveler Magazine, which reaches more than 1.5 million readers; and Sohu.com, China's most extensive consumer Web site, receiving 250 million hits per day.

"Nevada receives major news coverage in China as a result of these media tours," NCOT Director Tim Maland said. "Las Vegas is well-known around the world for its shopping, dining and entertainment, and this is our chance to show off the natural beauty and adventures that await visitors beyond the city lights. They read about the diverse landscape and attractions and want to come and experience Nevada for themselves."

The media tour begins April 19 when the journalists arrive at McCarran International Airport. After checking into Caesars Palace Las Vegas, their host hotel, they will explore the natural wonders of Red Rock Canyon, home to some of Nevada's most breathtaking rock formations. Then they will tour an MGM Mirage resort hotel before settling down for a enchanted evening watching magician Lance Burton in action at Monte Carlo Resort & Casino.

The next day is devoted to luxury starting at Wynn Las Vegas with a tour and breakfast. Then the journalists return to Caesars Palace to indulge in the new Qua Baths and Spa and feast at Empress Court, named by USA Today as one of the top Cantonese restaurants in the United States. Because a visit to Las Vegas is not complete without a shopping trip, they will tour the high-end Forum Shops before experiencing fine dining at Bradley Ogden at Caesars Palace. The day will end on a high note at Celine Dion's "A New Day" concert.

The tour concludes the next morning, April 21, when the group will travel to Los Angeles to attend the international tourism conference POW WOW in Anaheim, Calif., and then return to China.

In 2004 NCOT opened an office in Beijing and obtained the first license ever granted to a U.S. tourism agency to advertise in China. Since then NCOT has hosted media tours for Chinese journalists to complement the agency's advertising efforts in China.
