. June 29, 2015

SCOTTSDALE, AZ. June 29, 2015 - The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch, A Destination Hotel proudly announces the hiring of Rick Dupere as executive chef, Bernard Philippe as director of food and beverage, and Kimiko Berten as director of restaurants and bars. These esteemed professionals will help drive the culinary vision of the property during its $9 million renovation this summer, including plans for The Scottsdale's new Kitchen West restaurant and Bar Six40.

“It is with great excitement that we welcome Chef Rick, Bernard and Kimiko to the management team at The Scottsdale, as we develop dining concepts and menus for our new restaurant and bar, set to open in September,” said Ken McKenzie, general manager of The Scottsdale. “The renovation allows them to lend their expertise to shape the future of the property, and they will be pivotal in creating unique and unforgettable dining experiences for our guests.”

This summer, the resort's existing casual restaurant, Sangria's Lounge, will be completely remodeled, and the new space will boast communal dining, an open-air kitchen, and updated furnishings. The renovated restaurant will feature a new culinary concept and menu influenced by the Western United States for lunch and dinner, hence, the name Kitchen West. As the resort's new lobby bar, Bar Six40 will serve as an extension of the restaurant offering local coffee, freshly squeezed juices, and light breakfast options in the morning and afternoon along with craft beers and wines on tap with delectable bites later in the day. Dupere will oversee both outlets, in addition to running culinary operations throughout the resort.

Dupere joins The Scottsdale as executive chef after a decades-long career in banquet, special event, and management in both hospitality and corporate settings. He most recently served as executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix for four years, where he oversaw all hotel culinary operations, the Phoenix Convention Center & Venues, and JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, where he was the opening senior banquet chef.

Philippe has worked in food and beverage management for the past 20 years, including as director of food and beverage at resorts including JC Resorts in Southern California, The Boulders Resort & Waldorf Astoria Spa in Scottsdale, Hilton El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort in Tucson and DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Paradise Valley - Scottsdale. In his role as director of food and beverage at The Scottsdale, Philippe will oversee the renovation of the culinary outlets, manage and grow the food and beverage division within the resort, and lead the culinary teams.

Berten has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. She started her career in hotel management at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, and then spent 10 years in catering and working as a pastry chef and demi-chef de partie in California and Germany. Berten most recently worked as assistant director of food and beverage at The Peninsula Beverly Hills in Cali. Prior to that, she served as food and beverage manager at Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu. As director of restaurants and bars, Berten will oversee restaurant operations at Kitchen West, Bar Six40, Twisted Vine Pool Bar & Grill and all in-room dining at The Scottsdale.
