PALM HARBOR, FL, March 31, 2015 - To determine guest interaction in this new era of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), Hotel Internet Services (HIS) conducted a survey of over 500 guests and hoteliers across the United States. The study was conducted to better understand the current desires of hotel guests and their preferences with regards to the content they wish to watch when staying in a hotel. Especially relevant was to understand their viewpoint about being able to watch their own personal subscribed content on the hotel TV vs their mobile devices. It was further determined that having the ability to watch their own content on the TV was more desirable than watching a video-on-demand library. There was no question that guests desire to have the ability to stream personal content and watch subscriber content on the hotel TV.

According to Gary Patrick, President of Hotel Internet Services, “Giving guests the ability to stream their personal content onto the hotel's in-room television is very important to us. This study enabled us to understand exactly how guests would use such a system (like our BeyondTV Wireless Streaming Device) but we also discovered that guests are willing to pay for a service where they have the choice to view what they want and gain access to the Internet via the hotel TV. This opens up lost revenue opportunities to the hoteliers from the days of video-on-demand and allows hotels to provide a home like experience for their guests at the same time.”

Following a short demographic section that ascertained travel habits and types of devices the guests brought with them for business and pleasure, the study delved into actual user viewing behaviors. For example, when asked if they preferred watching VOD or the ability to stream their favorite subscription-based streaming services, the answer was resoundingly in favor of accessing their personal subscriptions. Also desired was the ability to stream their own personal content like music, videos, photos, etc.

Hotel interaction with guests is of primary importance, empowering the guest to access hotel amenities and services through the room's television.
