STR Reports US Hotel Occupancy Up for Week Ending December 6, 2014

Occupancy Up 3.1% to 57.1% and Average Daily Rate Up 4.5% to US$114.73

December 15, 2014 - The U.S. hotel industry recorded positive results in the three key performance measurements during the week of 30 November through 6 December 2014, according to data from STR, Inc.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry's occupancy rose 3.1 percent to 57.1 percent. Average daily rate increased 4.5 percent to finish the week at US$114.73. Revenue per available room for the week was up 7.7 percent to finish at US$65.48.

Among the Top 25 Markets, New Orleans, Louisiana, reported the only double-digit occupancy increase, rising 12.6 percent to 66.4 percent. Atlanta, Georgia, followed with a 9.9-percent increase to 65.3 percent. Oahu Island, Hawaii (-5.9 percent to 74.7 percent), and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota-Wisconsin (-5.0 percent to 60.1 percent), posted the largest occupancy decreases.

Three markets experienced double-digit ADR increases: San Francisco/San Mateo, California (+37.0 percent to US$226.64); Miami/Hialeah, Florida (+11.4 percent to US$266.23); and Nashville, Tennessee (+10.6 percent to US$117.00). New Orleans fell 14.2 percent to US$142.82 in ADR, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.

Eight markets achieved RevPAR increases of more than 10.0 percent: San Francisco/San Mateo (+40.4 percent to US$173.43); Nashville (+20.3 percent to US$79.84); Atlanta (+14.5 percent to US$62.43); Denver, Colorado (+13.9 percent to US$68.90); Anaheim/Santa Ana, California (+13.3 percent to US$89.49); Orlando, Florida (+11.9 percent to US$72.39); Miami/Hialeah (+11.8 percent to US$227.27); and Detroit, Michigan (+10.6 percent to US$54.16). New Orleans (-3.5 percent to US$94.90) and Oahu Island (-3.5 percent to US$152.17) reported the largest RevPAR decreases.
