Select Registry Appoints New President

Civic Leader To Head Collection of Award-Winning Inns Across North America

. March 02, 2010

March 01, 2010 - Bill Moncrief has been named president of Select Registry(TM), Distinguished Inns of North America. The organization represents 400 award-winning inns, intimate B&Bs and small boutique hotels in and around top destinations in the U.S. and Canada.

Moncrief brings a long history of civil service and leadership to his position, stemming from a celebrated career as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. During his 20-year tenure, Moncrief earned a Master of Science Degree in Computer Systems Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. His last assignment before retiring from the Navy was head of the technology systems at the National Defense University in Washington, DC.

This experience aided him in his post-naval career, propelling him to high-ranking technology management positions in Washington, DC. Moncrief served on the staff of the late Chief Justice Warren Burger during the Justice's leadership of the Bicentennial Commission for the U.S. Constitution. He was a founding member and officer of the federal government's Information Management Committee of the Small Agency Council. Later in his career, Moncrief held key technology management roles with the Georgetown University School of Business and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization advocating nutrition, health and food safety.

In 1999, Moncrief fulfilled his dream of returning to his childhood home along the peaceful southern New Jersey Shore. With his wife Nancy, they purchased the Candlelight Inn, a turn-of-the-century Victorian B&B in North Wildwood, N.J. The couple, who act as innkeepers, joined Select Registry's elite membership of North American inns and distinctive B&Bs in 2001.

“I'm proud to serve as president of Select Registry,” says Moncrief. “With a commitment to quality, the organization conducts ongoing inspections to ensure each member represents the very best the industry has to offer. In fact, of the nearly 20,000 inns and B&Bs in the US and Canada, only 400 have met Select Registry's exceptional standards for membership.”

Moncrief is well versed in the organization's mission, having served as an active member of the Select Registry Board of Directors since 2002 and as a Vice President.

“As an innkeeper for more than a decade, Bill brings a wealth of insight and experience to his role as head of Select Registry,” says Helen Young, the organization's immediate-past-president and owner of Inn On The Twenty, in Jordan, Ontario.

“Our members' unique charm and one-of-a-kind offerings span all interests, from beautiful scenery and romance to world-class dining and history. Bill's industry savvy and dedication to community enrichment will serve to promote Select Registry's diversity to travelers across North America, while uniting the brand to strengthen its recognition within the industry as the benchmark for quality.”

In addition to operating the Candlelight Inn, Moncrief also acts in dedicated support roles throughout the local business community. He previously served as an officer and Board of Directors member of Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce, Greater Wildwood Hotel/Motel Association and the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce.
