Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund General Manager Appointment

Hotel Indigo® Shanghai on the Bund Appoints GM as it Gets Ready to Set Sail

. February 09, 2010

Shanghai, 8 February 2010 - Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund has appointed Bruce Ryde as General Manager in preparation for the hotel's launch in May 2010. An upscale boutique brand, Hotel Indigo is the fifth brand that IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the world's largest hotel group, has introduced to Asia Pacific. Situated at Shiliu Pier on the Huangpu River front, providing spectacular views of the Bund and dramatic Pudong skylines, Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund is the first Hotel Indigo property to open in the region. It will feature 182 rooms, 20 River View Suites, two Garden Terrace Suites with extensive private terraces, meeting room facilities and an upscale restaurant, Char Bar and Grill.

Established in 2004, Hotel Indigo offers guests a boutique hotel experience paired with the peace of mind, service quality and Priority Club® Rewards benefits they get from staying at an IHG property. The brand pioneers a new concept targeting upscale travelers who seek a more individual and authentic experience that incorporates local historic, cultural and natural elements. The same high standards expected from IHG are exercised, but delivered within a less formal and more intimate service culture that focuses on making guests feel at home.

“The successful launch of Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund is significant for the Group as it will provide a blue print for the development of all future Hotel Indigo properties in the region. We wanted someone not only with the relevant operational and marketing experience, but who had the passion and personality to represent the unique character of the property. Bruce's personal passion for design and his proven ability to build and inspire local teams and launch new brands, made him an ideal candidate,” commented Allan Yip, Head of Hotel Indigo Asia Pacific.

Ryde has worked for IHG within the region for more than six years. Having previously been responsible for launching a number of properties and IHG brands in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, he most recently held the position of Regional Director of Sales and Marketing SE Asia. With more than 25 years experience in the industry, Ryde commenced his career in Australia where he owned the well-known Santa Fe diner and nightclub the 'Rattlesnake Bar and Grill' in Sydney. He then subsequently held a number of Sales and General Management roles for Furama Hotels, Radisson Hotels, Hamilton Island Resort and The Lido Group, an accommodation management company, before moving to Asia.

Ryde added: “I am very excited to be launching an entirely new hotel concept for the Group in the region. All Hotel Indigo properties are completely individual by design, reflecting not only the city they reside in but the history and energy of their local neighborhood. Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund is no exception; it has a distinct character and many unexpected, authentic details. It will offer something quite different to guests and with its unique location right on the river front and focus on fostering local creativity and bespoke design, it makes the role a very special opportunity.”
