Destination Appoints Two at the Vail Cascade Resort

. November 05, 2009

VAIL, CO, November 3, 2009 - Brett Schoenfield, general manager of the Vail Cascade, recently announced the appointment of two new executive team members, both with previous experience at the well-known resort property. Russell (Russ) Craney returns to the Cascade as assistant general manager and Rob Henderson comes back to head the property's sales and marketing department.

Craney began his career with the Vail Cascade in 1994 and worked his way up through the ranks to the position of food and beverage director by 2003. His exceptional work ethic and keen interest in all aspects of the hospitality industry led him to operations positions with RockResorts at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo. and the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colo. Most recently, Craney was the general manager of another RockResorts property, the Osprey at Beaver Creek, in Beaver Creek, Colo.

At the Osprey, Craney oversaw the property's $7.5 million renovation and transitioned the property to a RockResorts hotel brand. In his new position with the Vail Cascade, Craney will oversee all operational departments, including food & beverage, rooms and Aria Spa & Club. His primary focus upon arrival at the property will be the resort's new on-site restaurant, Atwater on Gore Creek.

With an extensive background in resort sales and marketing, Henderson brings to the Vail Cascade a valuable combination of area knowledge and competitive experience. Henderson worked with the Vail Cascade as director of sales and a national sales manager beginning in 1996, and with another DH&R property - Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs - beginning in 2001. Past positions with Rosewood Hotels, Kempinski Hotels, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Marriott Hotels and Resorts and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide have afforded him incredible industry experience and a vast understanding of the hospitality marketplace. Henderson also has provided consulting services to a range of property brands and destinations including DH&R and the Town of Snowmass. Most recently, Henderson worked with Viceroy Hotels, Resorts and Residences in Snowmass Village, Colo. on an extensive pre-opening initiative preparing the new resort for its much-anticipated 2009-2010 winter season debut.
