The Curtis in Denver Appoints Two Execs

Bruce Mangual as Director of Catering and Rick Oberdahlhoff as DoSM

DENVER, CO, September 30, 2009 - The Curtis hotel in Denver has announced two appointments to its executive staff: Bruce Mangual as Director of Catering and Rick Oberdahlhoff as Director of Sales and Marketing. In the tradition of the Curtis, Mangual and Oberdahlhoff created their own job titles: Mangual will be "Director of Chaos" and Oberdahlhoff will be known as "The Closer."

Bringing more than 20 years of Food & Beverage experience to his position as Director of Catering, Mangual will oversee all banqueting operations while working closely with Executive Chef Ben Smith to assure first-rate special events. Mangual joins The Curtis from the JW Marriott at Cherry Creek in Denver, where he has served as Director of Catering since 2005. Previous assignments include opening the Hotel Monaco in Denver as Director of Special Events. in 1998; Catering Director at the Alexis Hotel in Seattle from 1993 to 1998; Dining Director at Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek Colorado from 1991 to 1993; and Catering Manager at the Crescent Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, where he earned the title "Wedding King of Phoenix" from Catering Society of Arizona in 1988.

Born in Grand Haven, Michigan, Mangual followed his father, mother and brother into the dining trade and took his first position as a busboy at the Oxford Hotel in Denver in 1984. He currently resides in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood and enjoys wine, skiing and modern art.

Rick Oberdahlhoff

With 24 years of varied hospitality experience, Oberdahlhoff will oversee all sales and marketing operations for The Curtis, including development and implementation of creative strategies for the North American market. Oberdahlhoff came to The Curtis by way of the Sheraton Kansas City Sport Complex and Coco-Key Water Resort, a Sage Hospitality Resources property, where spent the past two years as Midwest Area Director of Sales and Marketing. Previously, Oberdahlhoff was Director of Sales and Marketing for the Doubletree Convention hotel in Kansas City from 2004 to 2007 and Senior Sales Manager at the Intercontinental Hotel in Houston from 2001 to 2004. He opened the latter property as Team Manager for Sales and Catering in 2001.

Oberdahlhoff got his start on the F & B side of hospitality as Banquet Manager and Social Catering Manager for the Doubletree in Houston in 1994. Oberdahlhoff was born on a cattle ranch in Bowling Green in northern Missouri and now resides in Denver where he spends his free time biking and shopping for antiques.
