New Restaurant Opens at Clarion Hagerstown

. October 14, 2008

For Immediate Release:

HAGERSTOWN, MD, August 14, 2006. The Clarion Hotel & Conference Center Antietam Creek, a 210-room hotel located in Hagerstown, Md., near the world famous Antietam National Battlefield, is now home to a popular East Coast restaurant.

Bamboo Bernies recently opened at the west end of the hotel at 7501 Old Telegraph Road. The sports eatery features entrees such as a 16-ounce New York Strip Steak, Fried Shrimp, and Chicken Parmesan with Pasta. Guests also can enjoy a wide range of salads, appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, burgers, and specialty beverages. The eatery is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday and Monday.

A sister nightclub operation, Cancun Cantina West, also is in operation. The original Cancun Cantina, a nationally known nightclub in Baltimore, has drawn top country music acts ranging from Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney to Little Big Town, Confederate Railroad and David Allan Coe.

Rhode Island-based Magna Hospitality Group LC, which owns and manages the Clarion Antietam, oversaw construction of the new restaurant and nightclub.

"Bamboo Bernie's and Cancun Cantina West will help establish the Clarion Antietam as the region's top lodging property for dining and live entertainment," said Felicia Comer, vice president of sales and marketing for Magna Hospitality.

Cancun Cantina West features a large stage with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. Country music fans will enjoy live music seven days a week. The venue will be accented with palm trees, sandy landscapes, decks, bars, and hardwood dance floors.

"We plan to bring the same high-caliber country acts to Hagerstown that we do in Baltimore," said Paul Janowiak, co-owner and vice president of Cancun Cantina West Inc. "We evaluated the Western Maryland Region and saw a strong interest for live country music. Hagerstown area country music lovers have never experienced anything like this."

The newly renovated Clarion Antietam property features 30,000 square feet of flexible meeting space; a learning center for self-contained and focused group meetings; an 8,700-square-foot fitness center with certified trainers; and free parking with more than 800 spaces. The hotel's gathering space can accommodate groups from 28 to 3,000. Function space ranges from the 15,026-square-foot Grand Ballroom (with eight break-outs) to the 3,800-square-foot Crystal Ballroom. New silver service (including china and chafing dishes) is available for upscale social events.

Improvements to the guest rooms, suites and hallways include new plumbing, air conditioning, and heating. Guests also will experience new textured champagne-colored wallpaper adorned with brass-accented sconces; teal-colored fine carpeting; and new upscale furniture including plush wingback recliners, office desks, beds with cherry head boards, and two-toned cherry entertainment centers (armoires). Some guest rooms overlook an indoor courtyard featuring a roof with skylights, a Japanese garden and pond with goldfish, and a large heated swimming pool.

Other popular attractions in or near Hagerstown include the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, Fort Frederick State Park, Sideling Hill, War Correspondents Memorial Arch, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, the Hager House, the Rural Heritage Museum, the Discovery Station Museum for Children, and Washington Monument State Park.
