Le Meridien to Rebrand Park Hyatt SF
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 5, 2006. The Park Hyatt here will become part of Le Meridien next week, a coup for Le Meridien, which has been seeking to bolster its North American distribution since being acquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in November.
Le Meridien is most heavily represented in Europe, where it has 90 properties, and Asia, where it has 30. In North America, it operates hotels in New York, Beverly Hills, Palm Springs, and Toronto.
The conversion, which had been rumored, is scheduled for May 9. The 360-room hotel is located near the Embarcadero downtown.
"San Francisco is always spoken of a sophisticated, European-style city," said SVP Michael Wale, "so we're especially delighted to be entering that market, given Le Meridien's French parentage."
While a plus for Le Meridien, the conversion is a disappointment for Park Hyatt, which is the deluxe brand of the Global Hyatt Corp. Park Hyatt has been losing distribution in the U.S. Its New York hotel, The Stanhope, for example, is in the process of being converted to residential condominiums.
