Tutwiler Sold to Investor Group

BIRMINGHAM, AL, March 7, 2006. The Tutwilder Hotel has been sold to an invesment group headed by industry veteran Bill Murray.

Murray told the Birmingham News a he has eyed The Tutwiler since forming Integral Hospitality Solutions three years ago.

Murray and Dallas investor Harold Rosbottom closed the deal last week and are set to begin a $6.2 million makeover of the hotel in May, reports said. Dallas-based Lone Star Funds was the seller.

According to reports, The Tutwiler will continue to be affiliated with the Wyndham hotel chain through the renovation, then become a part of the Hampton Inn and Suites brand when renovations are completed in September.

The upgrades reportedly will add 16 suites, a fitness center, possible street-level retail shop and eighth-floor breakfast room with a view of downtown.

Murray also set up a new website, www.thetutwilerhotel.com, giving the hotel its first online presence.

The Tutwiler name will remain; the hotel will become a part of Hampton's national reservation system.
