TEMPE, AZ, June 21, 2005. McCarthy Building Companies Inc. recently completed the construction of Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa, a new 77-room luxury hotel set in the red rocks of Sedona.

The $20 million hotel opened in early June and includes a separate full-service spa and retail boutique, fitness center, outdoor heated swimming pool and courtyards, large bar and the highly anticipated "Reds" restaurant featuring American bistro cuisine.

The project is the second major development by McCarthy in the Sedona area, complementing the company's portfolio of tourism and hospitality properties. McCarthy also built the Tequa Festival Marketplace, a specialty retail development completed in 2002.

Sedona Rouge's European design is influenced by Mediterranean and North African elements, featuring vaulted ceilings, fireplaces and balconies with delicate ironwork.

The hotel expands options for those seeking meeting and group space in the Sedona area, with accommodations for groups with 4400 square-feet of indoor and outdoor conference and catering facilities.

The hotel is one of several new high-end venues dotting the Sedona skyline, a community buoyed by a resurgence in tourism activity over the past few years. The area is estimated to host four million visitors each year.

The project architect is Evan Cross, with Pahana Architects in Mill Valley, Calif. Sedona Rouge is owned by the partnership of Jim Apple, Al Walburg, Robert Brooks and Bill Kassling.
