The Jamul Indian Village to Break Ground on 30-story Tribal Government Casino Resort

SAN DIEGO, CA, December 2, 2005. Jamul Indian Village Tribal Chairman Leon Acebedo and members of the Tribal Executive Council will host Groundbreaking event for casino, hotel & resort on its six-acre reservation on December 10, 2005. There will be the traditional "turning of the soil to start this celebration. The Groundbreaking will be a celebration of progress for the Jamul Indian Village as they move forward on the road to self-reliance and begin the construction phase on our tribal project. The Jamul Indian Village, a federally recognized tribe, will commence building its Jamul Casino, Hotel & Resort on its six-acre reservation in Jamul, California. It promises to be an event to remember.

"We are very excited to see so much community support since our announcement to move forward with our casino project. Literally we are receiving letters of support and job applications every day. As so many other tribes in San Diego County have done, we are moving forward with our plans to build a truly unique, world-class casino, hotel and resort," said Chairman Leon Acebedo. "Our project will greatly benefit the members of our tribe as well as the local economy. We want to celebrate with the entire community and thank everyone for all of their support through the years at our Groundbreaking gala. We expect everyone to come on out and enjoy some or our great Kumeyaay hospitality."

The gaming facility will be built in full compliance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) and the Tribe's state compact. The construction phase for the casino and resort will create hundreds of construction jobs alone and when open will generate an estimated 1900 jobs producing tens of millions of dollars in overall economic activity for the local area.

"We are excited about this historic event, this has been a long time coming and something we have been working very hard towards for many years now," said Vice Chairperson Carlene Chamberlain. "The Groundbreaking will feature more than $200,000 in prize giveaways and great local food."

"This is the beginning of a new era for our tribe," said Executive Council Member Eleanor Miller. "This is a new era of prosperity for not only our tribe but all of East County as well. After years of waiting, the time is finally at hand," said Executive Council Member Robert Mesa. "The tribe is firmly committed to working with the state and the county to minimizing impacts, including constructing a new fire station to serve the entire local community."

This is only the beginning of great things to come to Jamul. We are very excited with this opportunity to finally be able to provide for our tribal members with the tremendous venture. The Jamul Indian Village is a federally recognized tribal nation with a tribal-state compact and lands in trust that are eligible to build a casino. The tribe is located approximately 19 miles east of downtown San Diego off highway 94.
