Tucker's Point Introduces Distinctive Wellness Experience

. March 26, 2009

BERMUDA, March 26, 2009 - When Tucker's Point Hotel and Spa opens its doors on April 17, it will usher in a new era in island wellness to Bermuda. Guests will enjoy, within a 10,000-square-foot garden sanctuary, a world-class spa experience distinctive to this idyllic Atlantic island, with treatments inspired by Bermuda's nautical heritage and crafted from local flora, ocean minerals and honey harvested from the resort's own grounds.

With eight treatment rooms, the centerpiece of Tucker's Point Spa will be the signature, state-of-the-art hydrotherapy suite featuring the acclaimed SilverTAG Shower, currently available in only two other spas in the world, and two TAG FT Tubs. Within the Spa Garden, a manicured lawn beneath graceful Palms provides an inspiring setting for yoga and Tai Chi. Spa guests are invited to relax on lounges before and after treatments by a welcoming fire or on an outdoor daybed overlooking a tranquil reflecting pool. There will also be saunas, a ladies' salon featuring Shu Uemura and K'erastase products, and a men's barber shop that will feature the Italian brand Hommage. A fully equipped, 1,900-square-foot Fitness Centre will complement the Spa and will be stocked with state-of-the-art equipment from Life Fitness and Tuff Stuff. Rounding out the experience will be a special Spa Dining Menu, including blended fruit drinks and special teas that guests can savor in the Spa, by the pool, or on the Pergola Terrace daily.

Each signature treatment will begin with a ritual using indigenous tree branches to massage the soles of the feet for a relaxing, distinctively Bermudian experience. Then in the hydrotherapy suite, guests will enjoy the $100,000 state-of-the-art, computer-controlled SilverTAG shower. With 18 carefully positioned showerheads divided into six zones, varying temperatures and pressures are delivered in therapeutically designed sequences for invigoration or relaxation. The TAG FT Tub, an innovative component to achieving hydrotherapy's full therapeutic benefits, captures the pure sensual experience of a natural hot spring. The guest soaks in water filtered of all impurities, while warmer water gently pours over the shoulders and streams over the body to the foot of the tub.

As seductive as it is imaginative, the treatment menu at Tucker's Point Spa showcases an expansive array of facial and body therapies, massages and salon services, grouped into 10 distinctive collections. Among the offerings within The Bermuda Collection is a Beekeeper No. 5 Honey and Cane Sugar Scrub, which uses a blend of honey harvested at Tucker's Point, pure cane sugar and oil to smooth and hydrate the skin. Drawing inspiration from Bermuda's famed Rum Swizzle cocktail, a Swizzle Manicure/Pedicure comes complete with a splash of rum. This collection also includes a Bermuda Lily Post Sun Skin Rescue and a Tribe Road No. 1 Natural Aloe Massage - both ideal after a day on the beach, and a deeply relaxing Cedar Warming Massage. The Sargasso Thalasso Therapy cleanses and detoxifies based on a mineral-rich blend of seaweed and sea algae.

The Signature Therapy Collection ranges from an indulgent Anti-Oxidant Wine Therapy to a Vitamin-Rich Chocolate Therapy that features an exfoliating polish of pure cocoa extract followed by a warm wrap of soft chocolate. Glamorous Gold Therapy, which leaves the skin with a subtle golden shimmer, Hydrating Pearl Therapy with Facial, and an Authentic Turkish Massage are among the other exotic offerings in this collection.

Massages take the spotlight in the Wellness Collection, and range from an innovative Text-Messenger's Relief hand and forearm massage for the hard-core Blackberry user to a Traditional Swedish Massage, Lomi Lomi, and a Golfer's/Tennis/Sports Massage customized to the sport of choice. There are also massages designed especially for couples and mothers-to-be.

The Aqua Therapy Collection ranges from a Tropical Rain Splash Therapy featuring the Spa's Silver TAG Shower to a deliciously exotic Cleopatra Royal Milk Bath. Treatments from the far reaches of Asia are showcased in the Orient Collection, and include traditional Reflexology from China, Japanese Reiki, Indian Shirodhara Ayurvedic Treatment, and Samunprai, a Thai massage therapy using a warm herbal poultice of ginger, lavender, laurel and tamarind.

The intoxicating scents of local and exotic florals are featured in the Flowers Collection. The Red Flower Jet Lag Massage reawakens the senses of travel-weary spa guests through a relaxing and invigorating pressure-point massage using essential oils of French lavender, peppermint and rosemary. A Vitalizing Kinmoxei Wild Lime Silk Oil Massage uses Shiatsu-inspired massage techniques with a blend of flowers from kinmoxei to ylang ylang.

The eight treatments of the Gentlemen's Spa Collection are designed specifically for men, and range from a Muscle Taming Soak and Power Ready Facial to a Global Massage that incorporates a variety of techniques from around the world. The Continental Total Body Recharge is the ultimate Spa experience for men and includes a full-body dry scrub, steamed towel rub down, purifying scrub and a black bioactive silt mask, followed by a revitalizing face therapy and deep-tissue massage.

Other collections include the Facial Collection - from Youthful Eyes to a Radiant Oxygen Facial, the Beauty Collection with its full array of nail, hair, waxing and make-up services (including an Afternoon Tea Manicure or Pedicure that treats hands or feet to a milk soak, green tea exfoliation and white tea lotion massage), and a Gentlemen's Signature Barber Collection, ranging from a Tucker's Point Signature Shave using exclusive products from Hommage to an Executive Manicure.

The Spa also offers a Fitness Collection that addresses the Spa guest's work-out needs with a one-on-one Wellness Assessment with a trainer or a Mind & Body Personal Training Session that can be customized to the guest's interests, from improving sports performance to reducing weight. Guests can also learn Meditation Techniques that they can practice long after they return home.

As many of the Spa's pampering treatments are native to Bermuda, so is the gentleman behind their design. Spa Director Paul Telford returns to his home island from another - Oahu - where he oversaw the Spa at Honolulu's Kahala Hotel & Resort. Telford's world-class Spa experience also includes seven years with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, first in Washington, D.C. and then Punta Mita.
