Enjoy England Launches Family Campaign

. October 14, 2008

LONDON, UK, July 15, 2008. Enjoy England, the domestic tourism arm of VisitBritain, the national tourism agency, will give a helping hand to UK families as it launches a new Family Fun campaign.

Arriving just in time for the school summer holidays, the campaign aims to make summer 2008 one long family-sized adventure with thousands of ideas and special offers promising fun for all the family. Millions of mums and dads could at last also be spared the moaning mantra of "I'm bored!"

The campaign is supported by a new interactive website, www.monsterfamilyfun.com, which highlights England's hottest attractions and events, child-friendly accommodation, best family beaches, best free days out and events. The website allows families to tailor ideas by geographical area and the age of children.

Enjoy England has also created ten monsters; each one represents a different type of visitor attraction or day out. Meet Noj for example, who has crazy hair and lots of legs. He's into painting, pens, Shakespeare, dressing up, dancing and making lots of mess. Or Piski, who is a bit of a thrill-seeker and loves rollercoasters and anything that goes fast. The website also features interactive elements to banish boredom such as a feature to make your own monster and monster colouring sheets.

Laurence Bresh from VisitBritain's Enjoy England team said: "Last summer, Brits took 31 million overnight trips in England and spent lb5.6 billion. The long school summer holidays are when some of our most enduring childhood memories are formed, from exploring rockpools on the beach, to experiencing the thrill of the latest roller coaster ride. This is therefore the perfect time to kick start our Family Fun campaign which aims to help families with children of all ages enjoy England to the full."

Attractions which are new this year and expected to be pulling in the parents include Go Ape! at Whinlatter Forest in Cumbria and Leeds Castle in Kent, Cheetah Rock and Rhinos of Nepal at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Thomasland at Drayton Manor Theme Park in the West Midlands and Rhizotron & Xstrata Treetop Walkway, Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew.
