. October 14, 2008

ATLANTA, GA, June 23, 2008. The first integrated hotel in downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Marriott Downtown recently completed an impressive and contemporary $8.5 million dollar renovation and celebrates the debut by offering groups a complimentary coffee break. Simply book a meeting by July 31, 2008 and hold it before December 31, 2008 with 20 attendees minimum. (*)

Built in 1962, the nine-story landmark Americana Hotel (official name at that time) located at 160 Spring Street NW, was owned by Marvin Goldstein, dentist to the children of Martin Luther King Jr. When advised by the city to build separate water fountains for Caucasians and African Americans, Goldstein decided not to build any at all. "In an effort to preserve a part of history, our guests will still find remnants of the segregation with our public restrooms designated men's, women's and unisex," stated Michelle Bradley, director of sales and marketing at the Atlanta Marriott Downtown. "Today, I invite everyone to rediscover the beauty and aura of our legendary venue, wrapped in warm southern hospitality and complimented with luxurious accommodations and services unlike any other place on this planet."

Step into a Lobby {Reinvented} showcasing a Media Zone with HD Plasma screens, communal tables with complimentary Wi-Fi and the Liquid lounge. The 312-room venue is also home to the fine-dining restaurant, Aura. Luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites are decked out with Plasma TV's complete with Marriott's new plug-in technology; high-speed internet access; and Marriott's Revive Bedding. The exciting makeover moved outdoors with the resurfacing of the pool deck, complimented by striking new furnishings and a new state-of-art fitness center.

The Atlanta Marriott Downtown offers 14,195 square-feet of meeting space encompassing the 4,536 square-foot Centennial Ballroom and 16 meeting rooms. Additional amenities include valet parking, business center and Concierge Level. The hotel also participates in the award-winning Marriott Rewards(R) frequent guest program.
