Starwood Selects Online Security System from TimeLox

Leading Electronic Lock Provider Offers RF-Online Solution for Aloft and Element Hotels

. October 14, 2008

DALLAS, TX, June 18, 2008. TimeLox(R), a leading supplier of electronic hotel-locking systems, has been chosen by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.(R) as a preferred vendor to offer security solutions to the Aloft and Element hotel brands. Through this partnership, individual Starwood hotel owners can choose to install TimeLox's new wireless radio-frequency (RF) online electronic locking system, DC-ONLINE, which provides unsurpassed efficiency and productivity leading to increased satisfaction for hotel guests.

"In the past, the installation and maintenance associated with traditional wired online security systems have presented significant drawbacks for hoteliers," said Marc Freundlich, president and CEO of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality North America. "By choosing DC-ONLINE from TimeLox - the only widespread, proven and reliable wireless locking system installed globally - Starwood hoteliers can now install a wire-free, cost-efficient online solution. Also, by choosing to go online, hotels can maximize employee productivity, leading to greater guest satisfaction."

Starwood's partnership with TimeLox calls for new properties including Aloft and Element hotels to be constructed for compatibility with DC-ONLINE, offering its hoteliers a cost-effective way to facilitate reliable two-way communication from stand-alone electronic locks to each property's host security system. Unlike off-line stand-alone locks, DC-ONLINE provides total security control from one central location, utilizing RF-online communication capabilities that eliminate the need to travel to each guest room to perform tasks such as reprogramming individual locks, identifying and changing low batteries, or canceling or re-encoding key cards. By centralizing these functions, Starwood hoteliers can expect to increase employee productivity and guest satisfaction. DC-ONLINE components communicate with multiple rooms at once, reducing the number of network components required for installation when compared to other online technologies.

"We selected TimeLox as a preferred security vendor to offer new properties under the Aloft and Element brands the opportunity to go online, meaning most information updates and data retrieval can be managed remotely from the hotel's main computer system. Additionally, our existing hotels can opt to retrofit this solution in order to keep up with the leading-edge technology available today," said Gustaf Burman, senior director of IT property operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. "Starwood has a longstanding relationship with TimeLox, and we are confident our hoteliers and their guests will be very pleased with DC-ONLINE."

Built on the ZigBee Standard ISO 802.15.4 platform (the only wireless highly-secured and open standards-based platform to address the unique needs of monitoring and access-control network applications), DC-ONLINE provides unsurpassed system reliability and performance at an affordable cost. Operating on an open, reliable and secure platform like ZigBee also enables smooth interface and integration opportunities for other online devices such as safes, energy management and mini bars.

Part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, TimeLox is a leading developer of locking systems for the international hospitality industry, offering user-friendly security solutions that meet the unique operational needs of large hotels, casinos and resorts. For more information, visit www.timelox.com.
