STOWE, VT, June 14, 2008. Today, Vermont's most highly-anticipated resort hotel in decades welcomed its first guests as Stowe Mountain Lodge opened its doors to the public. The 139-room resort, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, is the first true luxury resort hotel experience to open in Vermont in more than 50 years.

The historic town of Stowe, Vt. has long been known as the "Ski Capital of the East" and the opening of Stowe Mountain Lodge affirms this charming vacation destination as the nation's preeminent year-round mountain resort experience. A host of activities are available to visitors all four seasons of the year, and Stowe Mountain Lodge's location at the base of two mountains - Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak - will enable guests to enjoy timeless beauty, invigorating recreation and relaxing activities in the most luxurious and highly-coveted surroundings.

Stowe Mountain Lodge will deliver a level of service found only at five-star resorts around the world. A precision typically associated with Far Eastern properties, a sophistication inspired by the finest European hotels and the relaxed warmth that is distinctly New England.

Programs such as Alpine Concierge(R) were created to address and anticipate guests' needs from specialty foods that are stocked in guest rooms to an international pillow menu for a restful night's sleep. The Alpine Concierge(R) staff creates a personal profile for each and every guest, which tracks all preferences and unique requests. These profiles allow the Alpine Concierge(R) staff to create an exceptional bespoke service experience for each guest during their current and future visits to the lodge.

The thoughtfulness of service principals also flows into the design and d'ecor of the property. The resort hotel is a melding of modern design concepts with a new "Vermont-Alpine" aesthetic. The lodge's exterior features a picturesque facade of woven timber and shingles that draw upon the natural harmony found in nature, as well as stone veneer created from local quarries, and expansive glass to bring the beauty of the lodge's outdoor surroundings to the indoors.

The interior design incorporates a color palette of the local seasons - vibrant reds, deep oranges, warm yellows and soothing greens. These warms tones, plush furnishings and soothing amenities dot the interiors, which are used as a showcase for Vermont's most renowned International artists and artisans, including glassblower Simon Pearce, furniture maker Charles Shackleton, pottery maker Miranda Thomas, artistic woodworker Parker Nichols, blacksmiths from Hubbardton Forge and several local painters, all of which enjoy a global following

Artisan-Inspired Cuisine

Vermont influences found throughout the lodge also are found in Solstice where Chef Sean Buchanan creates artisan-inspired cuisine. Vermont is New England's most venerated location for farm fresh produce, heirloom grains and local craftsmanship and Chef Buchanan, one of the state's foremost advocates of the farm-to-table movement, has partnered with the Vermont Fresh Network and Chefs Collaborative to create a dining experience that is unique to the area. These two non-profit organizations work to promote small farms and connect local farmers with area restaurants. The Hourglass bar also features Vermont-inspired cocktails from the Maple Chili-tini to the resort's own hand-crafted microbrew called Hourglass Ale, which is brewed nearby.

The Spa and Cooper Wellness at Stowe Mountain Lodge

A destination in and of itself, The Spa at Stowe Mountain Lodge offers guests more than 21,000 square feet of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. The Spa journey begins in the "healing lodge," a private water sanctuary integrating an herbal steam chamber, Jacuzzi pool, dry sauna, and cooling rain shower designed to encourage relaxing and unwinding. Two harmony rooms are available for music therapy, with reclining "sound chairs" equipped with sound transducers that allow dimensional music to pour directly into the body, inducing the deepest relaxation, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, relieving pain, and promoting better sleep. Cooper Wellness at Stowe is a unique experience endorsed by the Dallas-based Cooper Aerobics Center. Boston-based celebrity hairdresser Mario Russo also has partnered with The Spa at Stowe Mountain Lodge to create his first Salon Mario Russo outside of the city, offering customized hair, nail and makeup services, as well as an onsite bridal specialist.

Environmental Efforts

At the center of the only mountain resort in the United States to have been awarded Audubon International's sustainable community award, Stowe Mountain Lodge was built using eco-friendly practices and maintains a commitment to environmental stewardship through operational practices. Some examples of the lodge's environmental efforts include low flow shower heads and toilets, compact fluorescent light bulbs in all guest rooms, recycling bins available for guest use in rooms, use of eco-friendly cleaning products by housekeeping staff, in-room paper products (notepads, etc.) printed on recycled paper, sheets and robes made from bamboo, recycling program for all bath products and containers, and motion detectors in public spaces to determine needs for heating, air conditioning, and lighting.
