BOSTON, MA, June 16, 2008. The Freedom Trail Foundation marked a change in its board leadership, appointing Tom Kershaw, general manager & CEO, Hampshire House, Inc., as chairman of the board, replacing long-standing chair Louis Miller of Choate. Additionally, three vice-chairs were appointed: Larry Zabar of the New England Council, Mark O'Toole of The Castle Group, Inc. and Cecily Foster.

"The Freedom Trail is a vibrant, vital part of America's heritage and the city of Boston's tourism identity, and our new board leadership reflects the diversity and dedication of those committed to the Freedom Trail Foundation's mission," said Mimi LaCamera, president of the Freedom Trail Foundation. "I am excited to work even more closely with Tom Kershaw, and am especially grateful to Louis Miller for his years of tireless leadership."

The new board leadership will look to increase the Foundation's efforts through increased fundraising, creation of corporate sponsorship programs and continued delivery of educational initiatives such as the Freedom Trail Scholar's Program.

The Freedom Trail Foundation is currently celebrating 50 Events to Celebrate 50 Years, a year-long, citywide program that celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of the country's most valued historic treasures - Boston's Freedom Trail. Major events that are part of this celebration include the first British soldier encampment on Boston Common since 1776 and an international fife & drum pageant.

The 16 Freedom Trail sites, the Freedom Trail Foundation and 20 other city entities are presenting Freedom Trail and American Revolutionary history-related events that mark Boston's role in America's founding. Under the leadership of the Freedom Trail Foundation, tourism partners are helping promote the events, which are available at TheFreedomTrail.org.
